An unnamed beauty turned the heads of the car-loving public at the 1967 World’s Fair in Montreal, Canada. Two white Alfa Romeo coupés with special details, such as headlights half-hidden by decorative grilles, were presented in Canada. They were so well received that it was decided to go into series production.
The “Montreal” was to become Alfa’s new top-of-the-range model.
The tamed V8 engine of the Tipo 33 Stradale, the displacement increased to 2.6 liters and the output changed to a comparatively cultivated 200 hp, made the Montreal roadworthy with the easy and precisely shiftable ZF 5-speed gearbox.
The body of the small coupé is still regarded by fans today as Bertone’s masterpiece for Alfa Romeo, the “Alfa Bertone”. Many Alfistis speak of a dream car that owes its special nature to the 1967 World’s Fair in Montreal, Canada. The Montreal was only built 3925 times until 1977.
