Only 760 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn sedans were built between 1949 and 1955. All units and the chassis were shared with the Bentley MK VI. It was not until 1953 that the initially riveted frame was welded. The body could be ordered ex works for the first time. The in-line six-cylinder engine had intake valves suspended in the cylinder head and exhaust valves on the side and was enlarged to 4.6 liters from 1951. The cars were only available with a manual, fully synchronized four-speed gearbox. Equipped with a steering wheel gearshift, the model was built exclusively for export. It was not until 1952 that a four-speed automatic transmission could be ordered. Although luxury sedans were generally driven by chauffeurs in those days, the Silver Dawn was intended to appeal to buyers who wanted to drive themselves. From the fall of 1953, the Silver Dawn was also available in Great Britain. A top speed of 151 km/h was recorded by the British magazine “The Motor” in a test in 1954. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 15.2 seconds and average fuel consumption of over 18 liters per 100 km were also measured.
The Silver Dawn was replaced by the Silver Cloud in 1955.
