To complement the successful 100 saloon, Audi presented the 100 Coupé S at the 1969 IAA. This almost independent coupé was more than just an old family coupé hat. The “100 Coupé S” was not only 200 mm shorter and 90 mm lower than the saloon, it was also more powerful. The four-cylinder engine with a compression ratio of just 10.2:1, a square ratio of cylinder bore and piston stroke and the changes in the mixture flow rate ensured 115 hp and acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h in 10 seconds. The “Audi-typical” front grille with the 2 twin headlights and the “Italianized” bodywork provided an independent Audi flair. Technical innovations, e.g. a height-adjustable steering wheel, the refined ventilation system of the Audi 100, five slots in the wide C-pillar for forced ventilation, the standard heated rear window, the torsion crank axle at the rear and much more documented the legendary Audi slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik”.
