Around 2140 examples of this very special Dauphine were therefore built between 1962 and 1963. With a total number of 2,139,641 Dauphines produced, these rare “1093” are therefore highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of exceptional automobiles. Rare 1093 Dauphine less than 3,000 examples built, the first historically RENAULT SPORT, and yes that was 1093 the first sports car brand built for the rally. The fast Dauphine competed in countless races and rallies from 1962 onwards, and its drivers’ names read like a Who’s Who of French motorsport: Jean-Pierre Nicolas, Gérard Larrousse, Guy Chasseuil, Claude Ballot-Léna, Dany Snobeck, Jo Schlesser, Jean-François Piot, Henri Pescarolo. The “1093” is certainly a rare car. But how do you recognize a “1093” from a “banal” Dauphine or Ondine, even if it is a Gordini? First of all, externally, it must be white … “cassé”, then two large round eyes with a diameter of 180 mm, mounted on a redesigned hood. The two 25 mm wide blue stripes, 72 mm apart, run along the longitudinal axis of the car and the letters “1093” on the rear hood and the front right mudguard.
