The Mercedes SLK is a roadster, smaller and cheaper than the Mercedes SL series.
At the Turin Motor Show in April 1994, Mercedes-Benz presented for the first time in a study with the abbreviation SLK a compact roadster with a long vehicle front, short overhangs at the front and rear and a pronounced wedge shape. The special feature of this 2-seater sports car is the folding steel roof. At the push of a button the complete roof disappears electro-hydraulically within 25 seconds in the trunk. In terms of safety, the SLK impressed with two roll bars behind the seats and the particularly stable A-pillars. This ensures an absolutely high level of rollover protection for the occupants. The engine range included a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine with 100 kW (136 hp) and a mechanically supercharged 2.3 liter four-cylinder engine with 142 kW (193 hp). The two-liter engine version was equipped with a mechanical supercharger in spring 2000, which then produced 120 kW (163 PS) on the road. Later the engine range was extended with two six-cylinder engines. The first series, R 170, was produced from 1996 – 2004.
The second series, the R 171, was released in spring 2004 and thanks to a newly developed chassis, more powerful engines and a more direct steering, the R 171 offered even more driving pleasure.
