Our Pagoda has been registered in Germany since 1993 in one ownership while originally been delivered to the United States. First registration was in 1968, it displays an unwarranted mileage of 19,891 km, the 2.8 liter in-line six-cylinder (M130) provides 125 kW (170 hp) and extends its power to the proven four-speed automatic transmission.

The paint in the original dark green (colour code 268) is older, but still very presentable. The interior is made of brown MB Tex seats and carpets of the same colour in very good condition with no cracks or wear. Very nice for use with the white bakelite steering wheel. Plus the dashboard with a working clock and the original car radio “Becker Monza stereo”!

Chrome is good to very good (small dent on the left rear bumper). The soft top is beige and in good condition, the hard top in body colour is very good as is the entire body. There is a current Classic Data valuation of EUR 63,000.

When presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, the W 113 had the difficult task of replacing two models at a time, the 190 SL as well as the 300 SL. A task that was almost equivalent to the quadrature of the circle, but was solved brilliantly. Because of its smooth surfaces, the spacious interior and the absence of decorative elements, it came across as very “masculine” and made the predecessors with their rounded styling look outdated.

It was available as 230 SL (1963-1967), 250 SL (1967) and 280 SL (1968-1971), built with either manual or automatic transmission, to a total of 48,912 vehicles. Because of its slightly concave hardtop, available as an accessory, it was nicknamed Pagoda.

The W 113 was suitable for any occasion – be it for the opera, the golf course or the small shopping – and the main thing: it looked good on you!
