Vehicle Description

This car was originally delivered to the USA and is equipped with the 4.5 liter V8 engine (M117) which performs 132 kW (180 hp), especially reduced for the American market. The power is transmitted via a three-speed converter automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The vehicle was built in 1974 and unwarranted mileage is approx. 117,150 mls (equivalent to approx. 188,500 kilometers).

The appeal of the car lies in its color combination of green exterior paint (MB color code 860) with green MB-Tex interior and green carpets. The interior is in good condition, apart from a crack in the dashboard. The SL has cruise control, power windows and radio.

Only the underbody has some rust spots, that need to be fixed before registration/ roadworthiness. In addition, work on the chassis, among other things tie rods, is necessary. Paint and chrome are good, gap widths properly, hardtop in body color, soft top in dark green, good condition. The remaining original sun visors cannot longer be attached at both ends and the windscreen washer system is currently not working.

The SL-107 series, which followed in 1971 as the successor of the so-called “Pagoda” (W113 series), founded with the High-H4 headlamps and the large fluted taillights, a new line of design at Mercedes-Benz. The fact that these lines still matter today, is the fact that the R107 series SLs are in the popularity of the Germans in third place, only surpassed by the Beetle and the Mercedes W123 series (at much higher numbers built).

Like for the previous model the USA was largest sales market. The majority of the vehicles were equipped with the large-volume V8 engines.

This vehicle set numerous standards with continuous innovations over time and is now one of the eternal classics.
