Porsche 968 CS

– Porsche 968 CS, one of only 1,538 units built
– delivered and always registered in Germany
– 3.0 litres 4-cylinder engine with 176 kw (239 hp) and 6-speed manual gearbox
– replacement engine installed October 2015, since then only 20,000 km travelled
– brakes and clutch replaced about 70,000 km ago
– König K5000 sports seats
– Rohr exhaust system, front brake system from 993 Turbo
– original 17″ alloy wheels
– targa roof, climate control, power windows
– Blaupunkt New York radio installed
– German registration documents
– Maintenance booklet

Originally intended to be yet another facelift for the Porsche 944, the 968 only became a model in its own right after the Porsche management had realized that about 80 % of the mechanical components had been either modified or replaced altogether. The resulting car still looked very much like a 944 when seen from the side, or indeed from the inside, which was unchanged from the 944 S2. The front and rear sections of the car had been restyled, though, giving them a stronger family resemblance with the 928, and anticipating styling cues from the 993.
Production of the 968 – available as coupé or convertible – was no longer at Audi’s Neckarsulm plant where the 924 and 944 had been assembled, but at Porsche’s own Zuffenhausen factory. The 968 featured an updated version of the 3.0 litres inline 4-cylinder powerplant of its predecessor, which produced 176 kW (239 hp) and was mated to a 6-speed manual gearshift.
As of 1993, a Clubsport version of the 968 targeted customers who preferred a more lightweight, and therefore faster car to the rather luxuriously equipped, and more expensive, standard 968.
A very limited series of 968 Turbo S and 968 Turbo RS needs to be mentioned. With the 968, the era of 4-cylinder Porsche cars also came to an end… until almost two decades later, in 2016, the 718 Boxster revived this tradition.

Mercedes-Benz CL 500 (W215)

-Elegant and very well maintained Mercedes-Benz CL 500
– 2 owners only
– 5.0 litre V8 engine with 225 kW (306 hp) and automatic transmission
– Exterior paint in silver metallic with black leather interior
– Sunroof
– Power seats with memory function and heating
– Burl wood finish (steering wheel + dashboard)
– Heatable multifunction steering wheel, cruise control and navigation system
– Power blind on the rear window
– 17″ light alloy rims
– Summer + winter tires available
– Service booklet and owner’s manual available
– German registration, new technical control (MoT) upon sale

Mercedes-Benz’s second generation of the CL class debuted in 1998. It was based on the current S class sedan from the W 220 series, which had been released one year previously. For the coupe, the wheelbase was shortened by 20 cm, and only the top end of the range engines were made available. The “base model” – a term totally out of place for this type of luxury coupe – already cost more than 200,000 DM and got a full 225 kW (306 hp) out of 5.0 litres of displacement. At the top end, power was doubled to a whopping 450 kW (612 hp) from a 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 in the CL 65 AMG, which boasted no less than 1,000 Nm of torque. Needless to say, the interior used the finest materials and the car was equipped with state-of-the-art technology. such as Distronic cruise control, light and rain sensors, bi-xenon headlights or voice control for navigation and cellphone commands. Like the W 220 S class, the C 215 featured the new active body control suspension system, which automatically chooses the ideal damper setting in every driving situation.
Until 2006, when the C 216 was ready to relace it, 47,984 units of the luxurious coupe were built.

In 1995, BMW presented a new sporting two seater roadster. Designed by Joji Nagashima, technically based on E36 and internally named E36/7, this was the first new BMW to be built exclusively in the US. Within just two years, a new factory had been erected at Greer, South Carolina, which had commenced production of the E36 in 1994. Apart from the powertrain, which still came from Germany, all other components for the Z3 were sourced from North American suppliers. The roadster was very popular right from day one – aided by clever product placement in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.
In 1999, a coupé version (E36/8) was added. This proved somewhat controversial, as it was more of a shooting brake than an actual coupé, and it ended up nicknamed “breadbox” by some critics. The engine palette ranged from a 1.8 litre four-cylinder with 85 kW (116 hp) to the mighty 3.2 litre six-cylinder in the Z3 M, which boasted 239 kW (325 hp).
For the 2000 model year, the Z3 was facelifted, the new look best noticeable at the rear with the L-shaped taillights. The facelift also brought better insulation for the convertible top, which now had three layers, not just one, and higher quality materials were used for the plastic rear window.
Over 7 years, a total of 279,273 roadsters and 17,815 coupés were built.

An very appealing youngtimer with appreciation potential

The BMW plant in Dingolfing produced almost 330,000 examples of the third generation of the 7-series E38 up to 2001. The no-frills design was considered a trendsetter in the automotive luxury class and is still pleasing to look at today. A considerable range of prestigious six-cylinder, slightly modified eight-cylinder and twelve-cylinder engines from the previous E32 model were available for the powertrain. The impressive numbers also made the E38 series a commercial success for BMW. In the public eye, the 7 Series set itself apart as a Hollywood star in the several feature films, such as the James Bond flick “Die Hard.” But in addition to this film career, the E38 also became an impressive trendsetter in the global automotive industry from a technical standpoint. It was the first production model to be ordered with a fully integrated GPS navigation system under the name “Carin” from Philips and an on-board telephone. Electronic damper control with a particularly gentle suspension mode provided even greater ride comfort. The extensive equipment variants and accessory features made of fine materials support the image of a luxury class legend.
