A real youngtimer … The BMW E36 as a convertible
– The coveted M50B25 TÜ engine makes 192PS from 2.5L displacement
– Single vanos and 24 valves
– 5 speed manual transmission
– Black exterior paintwork in combination with beige leather interior
– 3 Owners
– Mileage of only 144,000 KM
– Checkbook maintained
– Various workshop bills available
– 2015 rear shock absorber and front right wing renewed
– 2014 clutch and cardan shaft renewed

A reliable convertible with sophisticated technology for everyday use and fun on the country road

BMW’s 2nd generation of the 3 series, the E30, replaced its popular predecessor in 1982. With its straight lines, Claus Luthe – who had penned the timeless NSU Ro 80 – created a car that perfectly catered to the taste of its era. The handsome and well-built cars with their wonderfully smooth engines were originally available as 2- and 4-door sedans. As early as 1983, the Baur company at Stuttgart produced a convertible which was distributed through BMW’s official retailers. With its fixed window frames and the roll bar, it featured typical 1980s styling cues. Two years later, BMW presented their own convertible – the first in 15 years. And how different it looked in its completely open state, devoid of the aforementioned bars and beams.
It became an immediate success. Over 140,000 units were built until production ceased in 1993, three years after the launch of the E36 sedan.
30 years after its presentation, the E30 convertible has already become a sought-after classic. It is getting exceedingly difficult to find a well-preserved, original specimen – simply because many have suffered dearly at the hands of a financially inflexible clientele of 3rd and 4th hand owners attraced by the racing qualities of the E30 3 series.

Volkswagen Golf I CL

– Volkswagen Golf I CL, 5-door in blue with 4-speed manual transmission
– from last year of Golf I production, 1983
– original 4-cylinder petrol engine with 37 kW (50 hp)
– blue interior in good condition with traces of use
– lowering by sports suspension
– interior completely refurbished
– 15″ BBS light alloy rims
– Dietz retro-style radio on board, new rear speakers
– service booklet stamped up to 156,464 km, recently serviced
– brakes and chassis front and rear as well as rear lights renewed
– German registration documents and historic plates

In 1974, Volkswagen presented its first Golf – an immense improvement over its predecessor, the VW beetle and its air-cooled engine in the rear. The Golf was, from the start, a front-wheel drive car, with water-cooled transverse engines – and hugely successful. The basic version originally had 37 kW (50 hp), alternatively one could order a 1.5 litre engine with 51 kW (70 hp). As of 1976, Diesel engines were available, too. The Golf GTI with 81 kW (110 hp) of power from 1.6 litres of capacity, introduced in 1976, for many people represents the epitome of the “hot hatch”. No wonder these cars have gained such popularity: they offer a first-rate driving experience, akin to that of conventional sports cars, while not compromising any of their everyday usability.
After nine years and 6 million of sold units, the second generation was introduced in 1983. The Golf I convertible, however, continued to be built for another decade, outliving the entire Golf II series, which was built no less than 6.3 million times, but of which VW never made an open variant. The pick-up version called Caddy, which was based on the Golf I and of which 200,000 units were produced, should also be mentioned.

– 120 hp from a 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine with multi-point injection (MPI)
– 5-speed manual gearbox
– Swiss registration
– Traditional color, “British Racing Green” and black interior
– Central locking with remote control, alarm system with immobilizer, power steering, driver and front passenger airbags with belt tensioners, sports seats, power windows, power exterior mirrors, tinted glass

Sporty youngtimer in a well-maintained condition

MG produced sports cars until the end of the 1980s. In the following years from 1982 to 1991, only sporty compact cars and saloons from Rover were marketed by MG.

The MG F, typically a car that was somewhat overshadowed in its day by competitors such as the Mazda MX-5, Fiat barchetta and Toyota MR2. Wrongly so, because this compact two-seater is built according to the incredibly fun mid-engine concept and offers plenty of driving pleasure. Its appearance in 1995 was somewhat influenced by the legendary MG B.
The F was introduced in 1995. It was a completely new model with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mid-engine behind the front seats, delivering 118 hp for sporty performance. The years flew by and the F brochure regularly contained special models.

Have you been trying to find an all-original E30 convertible without aftermarket wheels, spoilers or other ominous bolt-on parts? With complete history, and a mileage that makes you click your tongue rather than water your eyes? Well then, here it is!
This brilliant red 325 iC was delivered to the US when new and remained in the same ownership until recently, when it was imported to the Netherlands by the previous owner, but never registered there. The original bill of sale is present, as is the service booklet and all receipts. The odometer – converted to km – displays a mere 26,100 km which are genuine according to the consignor.
The paintwork is original with only minor stone-chip damage. The BMW has reportedly never been in an accident. The interior with its black leather upholstery presents itself completely dry, clean and well-kept. The convertible top and tarpaulin are in fine shape, and the electric top works, only the hood does not close all the way.
With air conditioning, cruise control, original BMW sound system with CD changer, electric antenna, power windows, driver’s side airbag and heated front seats, the features’ list leaves nothing to be desired.
Why cry over a tuning victim, when you can have the real thing in truly stunning condition?

DAX Tojeiro Cobra

– 1979 AC Cobra 427 Replica
– by the first British Company to offer kit-based replicas, Dax Tojeiro
– 6 twin-carburettor Jaguar V12 engine with 5.3 litres of capacity and 236 kW (321 hp)
– 5-speed manual gearbox
– open side pipes, chromed roll bar
– bordeaux red paintwork and beige leather interior
– Britax harness seat belts
– wooden steering wheel
– soft top, tarpaulin and side screens available
– runs on 15″ bi-colour alloys
– ready for registration as a historic vehicle

The combination of the English sports car AC Ace with a more powerful Ford engine resulted in a racing car for the road – the AC Cobra. The idea of the former racing driver Carroll Shelby was quickly realized by the car manufacturer AC and already in 1962 the first Cobra was manufactured. In addition to the 4.3-litre V8 engine, the frame was also strengthened, the track widened and fenders flared. The Cobra was fitted with Jaguar E-Type disc brakes and a Borg Warner four-speed gearbox for better power transmission. The top speed of the car was 240 km/h, which contributed to great racing successes. The racing project also resulted in further reinforced versions of the sports car. The 289 model with a 4.7-litre engine was the best-selling model in Europe. In 1965 the model 427 with 7-litre engine and 312 kW (425 hp), a stiffer frame and larger drive shafts and brakes appeared. In addition, a version 428 with a new coupe or spider body was produced without the influence of Shelby. In 1966 the era of the Shelby Cobras ended. AC continued production only until 1968, but there are now a large number of replica models. Especially popular are the inexpensive kit cars, whose bodywork is made of GFK laminate.

BMW Z1

“I am loath to let go of this one, but it is getting a bit strenuous…” the previous owner sighed. He was, of course, referring to the high sills which need to be overcome by everybody that wants to enjoy the ultimate driving experience in this very special roadster.
This specimen, one of only 8,000 Z1 models built, is not in a too-good-to-drive condition. It is, however, an honest car which has given its previous owners plenty of joy on the road. While still wearing its original coat of paint, it doesn’t attempt to hide scratches, minor blemishes and stone chip damage.
The roof is said to have been renewed in 2013. The front indicators have been replaced – using the last ones available in all of Europe, according to the consignor. A new odometer has been fitted at 135,000 km, so the unwarranted total mileage amounts to 185,000 km. A cold start valve for Euro 2 has been installed. New brakes were fitted two years ago.
The engine runs very smooth and all mechanical parts – windows, retractable doors, convertible top – are reportedly in good working order. The interior is in a well-kept state for its age, with visible, but not overly pronounced traces of use. The original BMW “Business CD” radio is on board.
A rare and very appealing roadster, fun to drive and with great appreciation potential.

For an even more open drive, you’d need a motor-bike!

The BMW Z1, presented at the Frankfurt car fair In 1987 and produced from 1989 to 1991 in a limited small series of only 8,000 units, is a first-rate eye-catcher, which is mainly due to its exciting body with retractable doors. They make getting into the car a bit of a challenge for less mobile citizens, however, they allow for a convertible feeling of a lifetime, for they may even stay down while driving!

The Z1 was a technology demonstrator with distinctive features such as the front mid-engine, the completely, in one piece, galvanized chassis, the body parts made of thermoplastic material or fibreglass and the completely smooth underbody.

The extremely stiff chassis combined with the 170 hp six-cylinder make the Z1 a driving machine that turns each serpentine route into a feast for the senses.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Cabrio

– elegant and very rare Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Convertible
– the pinnacle of German engineering in the 1960s
– considered by many the most luxurious way of open-top driving
– rare example of a non-export car, delivered in Germany, full ownership history available
– with its current, third owner, an official Mercedes-Benz service garage, since 2003
– legendary 6 cylinder aluminum engine said to be recently overhauled at km 131,142
– carefully restored and repainted in its original colour, silver metallic (Mercedes colour code 180)
– black leather interior with centre arm rest
– original Becker Mexico radio installed
– expert appraisal in 2018 states a replacement value of € 225,000 (condition 2+)
– data card, booklet, German registration documents and historic plates

In the early 1960s, Mercedes-Benz found itself in a bit of a predicament: Its luxury sedan, the W189 “Adenauer” was beginning to look distinctly outdated. Its heir, the “Grand Mercedes” 600 (W100) was under development, but not quite ready. To bridge the gap, the existing W111 series was shouted a special trim level with an extra helping of chrome, leather and wood, as well as the large aluminum-block 3.0 litre 6-cylinder engine and start-of-the-art technology including air suspension and power steering. Known by its internal code W112, the 300 SE became the rarest and most prestigious of the “tailfin” family. 5,202 sedans were built until 1965, plus an additional 1,546 with long wheelbase. The two-door variants, available from 1962 until 1967, were even rarer: Only 2,419 coupés and 708 convertibles were manufactured – in the truest sense of the word, largely by hand – and sold to affluent customers, mostly in the US and other export markets.
Build quality was nothing short of excellent, further strengthening the reputation Mercedes-Benz had aquired as a luxury car maker around the world, and ensuring that right until today, half a century later, the popularity of these cars remains unbroken.
