Jaguar XK 140 OTS

On 1 June 1956, this Jaguar XK 140 was dispatched to Jaguar Cars in New York, USA. In 1972 the car found its way back to Europe, and for the past 44 years, it has remained in possession of the same aristocratic owner, one of the great men of historic motor sports, who drove it regularly, favourable weather conditions permitting, until autumn last year. The open two seater has been regularly serviced by the same garage throughout those 44 years. The Jaguar is a non matching numbers vehicle, it presents itself today in a very authentic condition with just the right degree of patina. As you would expect from a car owned by a true connoisseur, the Jaguar is mechanically sound and a real pleasure to behold. It has valid technical approval until 06/2017 and historic plates. In the early 1970s, Jaguar disc brakes have been fitted for a better braking performance. Underneath the characteristic rounded bonnet, the 3.4 litre in-line 6 cylinder engine with dual SU carburettors is installed, which produces 140 kW (190 hp) and sends drive to the Jag’s “hind legs” by means of a 4-speed manual gearbox with electrically actuated overdrive. Thus the roadster has effectively got five gears, a rarity at its time. A second Jaguar gearbox can be supplied with the car. An electric fan has been fitted to prevent the valuable engine from overheating. The XK 140 runs on beautiful spoke wheels and features additional high beam front lights. A recent Classic Data appraisal estimates the value of this Jaguar in condition 2 at € 150,000.

Jaguar’s first sports car after WWII, the XK 120, was presented at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Exhibition in London. It was equipped with a brand-new and indeed very modern twin-overhead-camshaft engine. Sir William Lyons’ impressive styling went down extremely well and orders for the XK 120 just flooded in. Aided by the fact that the sports car was offered at a very competitive price, it became a huge success, not only on the home market, but especially in the US. A fixed head coupé variant was added in 1951, and a drophead coupé followed in 1953.
In 1954, Jaguar modified the sports car and re-launched it as Jaguar XK 140. Compared to its predecessor, the new car offered a roomier interior, improved suspension and brakes as well as rack and pinion steering. The 3.4 litre 6-cylinder engines was taken over trom the XK 120, it now delivered 142 kW (190 hp), or 157 kW (213 hp) with the optional C-Type cylinder head. An automatic transmission option became available. The choice of three different body styles – roadster or open two seater, drophead coupé and fixed head coupé – remained unchanged.
The XK 140 stayed in production for only three years before being replaced by the XK 150.

MG manufactured sports cars until the late 1980s. In the following years from 1982 to 1991, only sporty compact cars and sedans from Rover were marketed via MG.

In 1994 the design was finalized and series production was prepared. The official market launch in Great Britain was in September 1995, while the vehicle was only available in Germany a few months later. When the model was launched, only one engine with 120 hp was initially available. Later in 1996 a version based on the same 1.8-liter Rover four-cylinder with 146 hp and variable valve timing followed.
A facelift version of the F was available from 1999. Most noticeable was the redesigned interior with a modified speedometer dial with now digital kilometer display, as well as redesigned seats and door panels, while the F remained almost identical from the outside.
For the first time, an automatic transmission was now also available with the 115 hp Step Speed model version.

In 1974, Volkswagen had presented its first Golf – a great improvement over its predecessor, the VW beetle and its air-cooled engine in the rear. The Golf was, from the start, a front-wheel drive car, with water-cooled transverse engines – and hugely successful. After nine years, the second generation was introduced in 1983. The characteristic shape and basic concept remained unchanged, but the new series was slightly more rounded and significantly larger – 5,5 cm wider and a full 28 cm longer. When the 3rd generation was presented in 1991, it had again grown larger and significantly heavier. The “Variant”, a station wagon, first became available in 1994. A new convertible was also added to the lineup, finally sending the Golf I convertible into retirement after 13 years.
For the Golf III, the choice of engines started at 1.4 litres of capacity and went up to the powerful 2.9 litre VR6 producing 142 kW (193 hp). Many Golf III were sold with the new direct-injection turbo diesel engines (TDI), available as of 1993 and upgraded in 1996. Unfortunately, in terms of rust prevention and build quality, the 3rd generation couldn’t quite match its predecessor.

Fiat 126 A Cabrio

Convertible rarity in top condition
– 26 hp from a 0.7L water-cooled two-cylinder engine
– Manual transmission
– 3 owners only, actual owner since 2012
– Low mileage with 21.365 km only
– Convertible roof in good condition

– Complete inspection and service work done
– Engine newly sealed
– Unmodified in original condition
– German registration

The Fiat 126 was presented at the 1972 Turin Motor Show as the successor to the Fiat 500 Nuova. Fiat would have liked to take over the design of its successful predecessor. But after almost 20 years, the spherical body shape no longer struck a chord with the 70s. Fiat designer Sartorelli designed the new body in a contemporary, angular style, with the benefit that there was now enough space for 4 occupants. The fuel tank was placed under the rear seat, now foldable. This increased the luggage space from 30 to 100 liters. The chassis and the engine were largely taken over from the predecessor. The Fiat plants produced almost 1.4 million 126s in Italy until 1980. Fiat officially ended production of the 126 in 1987, but in parallel, since 1973, the car was built under license by the Polish FSM in Bielsko-Biala and Tychy until 2000. Within its history, the Fiat 126 has undergone numerous changes. Among them, two convertible models were created. One version with a roll bar and almost original size doors was produced by Bosmal on FSM basis. The second convertible version was produced by Pop without the roll bar and smaller doors. This resulted in a small car with the flair of a convertible. From 1987 on, the Pop company produced about 700 units of the 126 Cabriolet with the water-cooled 700 cc 2-cylinder with 26 hp.

After seven years and over 100,000 units sold, the MGA was ripe for replacement in 1962. The successor, named MGB, featured a modern unibody layout with crumple zones. The engine was taken over from the MGA, but displacement grew to 1.8 litres, which enabled a power output of 70 kW (95 hp). At first, the roadster was the only available body style, this changed with the introduction of the MGB GT in 1965, a fixed-roof hatchback coupé designed by Pininfarina, which shared most components with the roadster, including the rigid floor pan.
A six-cylinder variant was sold as MGC from 1967-1969, and the MGB GT V8 from 1973-1976 featured a 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine. During the 18-year long production run, the standard MGB was subject to only minor modifications. A total of 523,836 cars had left the factory when production ceased in 1980.
Interestingly, 12 years after its discontinuation, the MGB was relaunched and from 1993 to 1995, another 2,000 units were built with new body panels, a 3.9 litre Rover V8 engine but otherwise comparatively few changes, and sold as MG RV8.

Not open for everyone, but if open, then for four

Mercedes-Benz convertible lovers had to wait for it for a full two decades: A convertible, which offered no jump seats, but comfortable seats in the rear. There had been no such car since the end of production of the W108 series. In 1992 it was time again! The convertible based on the E-Class (W124) coupé, presented in 1987 – at a time when the corresponding sedan had been out for sale for eight years straight. Early customers weren’t to be deterred by the high purchase price of 100,000 marks, and what they got, was a technically sophisticated vehicle with the proven 3 litre four-valve engine.
In subsequent years, the engine range was extended downwards, yet even the basic version with four-cylinder engine still set you back some 80,000 DM. From October 1996 to July 1997 there was the special “Final Edition” with an elegant, black-brown burl wood.
Since many A124 endet up as tuning victims, un-tinkered original models are now fast advancing to valuable classics.

This top AMG model has everything that is good and expensive. It combines the properties:
SPORTY (in 4.4 seconds to 100 km / h) and SOVEREIGN (1,000 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm)

This two-door coupe was produced from 2006 to 2013. The successor to the Mercedes-Benz C 215 model is the third generation of the CL-Class. This luxury class vehicle was based on the platform of the 211 series, but the body was enlarged. The entry-level CL 500 model was delivered with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission with 285 kW (388 hp). Other versions were CL 63 AMG with V8 petrol engines, CL 600 and CL 65 AMG with V12 engines, all with rear-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive models were equipped with Airmatic air suspension, while Active Body Control was standard on the remaining models. Many other special features such as bi-xenon headlamps with the Intelligent Light System adaptive headlamp system, nano paint or Pre-Safe protection system were also part of the standard equipment. Model upgrading followed in 2010. The spoilers, exterior mirrors and exhaust tailpipes were reworked on all models, and the radiator grille and headlights were replaced. The Mercedes-Benz C 216 received an optimized driver assistance system and a completely new crosswind assistant that kept the vehicle on track even in strong winds. A total of around 6.4 million Golf II were built, topping the registration statistics in many countries. Even today, the Golf II is still a common sight on German roads, which is due to their effective rust prevention and superior build quality.
The “Golf Country” (1990 – 1991) with four-wheel drive, higher ground clearance and bullbars anticipated the concept of modern-day SUVs, but not their success. A small series (100 copies) of the Golf II were built as electric vehicles “citySTROMer”. Interestingly, no factory convertible was offered, so the Golf I convertible (1980 – 1993) actually outlived the Golf II.
