BMW Alpina B11 3.5 Limited Edition

  • By:

– BMW Alpina B11 3.5 Limited Edition (E32)
– one of only 332 units built
– 6-cylinder engine with 176 kW (239 hp) from 3.5 litres of capacity
– grey leather interior
– original Alpina alloys and steering wheel
– power windows and sunroof
– air conditioning and trip computer
– repaired accident in the rear section
– valid technical approval until 10/2020, German registration documents and historic plates

BMW’s second generation 7 series, presented in 1986, replaced the E23 after nearly 10 years in production. It was designed by Claus Luthe and internally named E32. As is customary with top end products of any manufacturer, the new model introduced a variety of innovative features, in the case of the E32 those comprised CAN bus, traction control, xenon headlamps, park distance control and double glazing, to name only a few. In a push to outperform the main rival Mercedes-Benz, BMW introduced a V12 engine in the 750i, available as of 1987. Just in case, a V16 was developed and tested in 1988, but management decided against its roll-out. It needs to be said that the E32 was a powerful car regardless of the engine choice. Top speed in the 750i was voluntarily limited to 250 km/h – those wanting to travel even faster were catered for by BMW tuner Alpina, who provided beefed-up variants of the 6- 8- or the 12-cylinder engines. Diesel engines had not yet found their way into a luxury sedan at that time. The E32 series was available with a long wheel-base. A facelift in 1992 brought new engines and 5-speed automatic gearboxes, as well as minor changes to the interior. Production continued until 1994, by which time 311,068 cars had been built.

Ferrari Testarossa

– rare “Monodado” Ferrari Testarossa, model year 1987
– sought-after knock-off (“one-nut”) magnesium alloys, only offered 1986-1987
– low mileage car with only 2 owners from new
– large service including timing belt and brakes in February 2016 at 34,285 km
– tyres and clutch recently renewed
– explicitly not “rosso”, but black paint with beige leather interior
– air conditioning, power windows, electrically adjustable mirrors on both sides
– German registration documents, valid technical approval until 01/2018
– will be entitled to historic plates in just a few months’ time
– the most stylishly wrapped up engineering feat

Beyond any doubt, the Ferrari Testarossa is one of the ultimate dream cars of the 1980s and 1990s. Is it due to its striking design – by Pininfarina, who else – with the exotic side gill slats? Is it because of the splendid, mid-mounted flat-12 engine? Or simply because for the vast majority of dreamers, it has always been, and continues to be, as unattainable as a flight to Mars?
Whatever the reason, this car has always been destined for a classic, right from its 1984 debut at the Paris Motor Show.
The “red head” – referring to the red-painted cylinder heads – addressed and solved the problems of its predecessor, the 512 BBi: The prominent “cheese grater” side strakes fed the dual radiators, thus preventing the cabin from overheating. It was also roomier, and significantly more powerful. The standard 0-100 km/h dash was achieved in 5.3 seconds.
After 7 years in production, the Testarossa was re-launched – almost an entirely new car – as 512 TR in 1991. The engine output had now reached 315 kW (428 hp). Another facelift in 1994 brought the F512 M, which remained in production until 1996. A total of nearly 10,000 Testarossa, 512 TR and F512 Ms were produced, making it one of the most successful Ferrari models ever.

Siata Spring

– Siata Spring, exotic roadster, completely unrestored and original
– even the underbody has not been welded
– four owners from new, all in Germany, one of them held this car for 38 years
– very low original mileage of 37,200 km, as the car was mostly used as showroom eye-catcher
– brought back into running order in 2016, new fuel pump and brakes
– incredible state of preservation for a 48 year old unrestored vehicle
– it will be difficult to find a Siata Spring in equally original condition
– German registration documents

The Siata company was founded in 1926 by Giorgio Ambrosini, and specialised originally in modifying and tuning of Fiat cars. Production of their own Fiat-based sports cars commenced in 1948. For a brief two years, 1959-1961, Siata cooperated with Abarth. In the 1960s, the company was best known for elegantly styled coupĆ© and roadster bodies. The Siata Spring, presented in 1967, was a bit of a breach with this tradition. It is best described as a retro-styled fun car. While taking styling cues from old-school British roadsters, such as swept wheel arches, running boards and separate headlights, it was no precise replica of any existing car. The large upright radiator grille was strictly ornamental, the engine being located in the rear as the underlying Fiat 850 technology postulated. The somewhat quirky little roadster was quite a success, but it could not prevent the Siata company from going bankrupt in 1970. The assembly line of the Spring was sold to a newly founded company in Sardinia named Orsa, and production was continued from 1973 to 1975 which minor improvements. Today, the Siata Spring is a very rare sight indeed, the surviving examples of this unique and likeable car are mostly held by a committed fan base. Owing to the ready availability of Fiat 850 spare parts and a well-organized club scene, the Siata Spring’s future looks bright.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (993)

– Porsche 911 Carrera 4S from the 993 series
– 1997 model from penultimate year of the air-cooled era
– classic colour combination of silver paint with black leather interior
– repaired accident damage
– well-kept interior
– cruise control, climate control, power sunroof and windows, electrically adjustable seats
– Blaupunkt Modena radio on board
– 18 inch turbo alloys
– car comes with French registration documents
– Classic Data appraisal over ā‚¬ 115,000 (condition 2, 2017)

In late 1993, Porsche presented the successor to the 964, internally named 993, as the 4th generation of its 911 model. It was the last of the air-cooled models and as this marked the end of an era. Consequently, the 993 has become one of the most popular 911 variants. From the outside, the 993 is visually distinguishable by the smoother bumpers, the larger rear wing and the more flared wheel arches. Of course, it also brought a number of technical improvements over its predecessor: A 6-speed gearshift became standard. As of 1995, the Tiptronic was improved and steering wheel controls added. The ABS brake system was also improved, and numerous other components altered. In 1996, an all-new Targa was added to the lineup, it featured a retractable glass roof instead of the removable roof section of previous models.
Needless to say, the power output was upped for the new 911 once again. Early 993 Carreras with their M64/05 engines produce 200 kW (272 hp), later ones have the M64/21 engine with 210 kW (285 hp). The Carrera RS version from this era topped this by producing no less than 221 kW (300 hp) – from an air-cooled, naturally aspirated 3.8 litre 6-cylinder engine.

– 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280 CE from the W123 series
– delivered to and always registered in Germany
– decomissioned in 2003 and kept in dry storage until recently
– 2.8 litre 6-cylinder engine with 135 kW (185 hp), the largest petrol engine in the W123
– engine revised at 203,000 km
– undercarriage and suspension overhauled
– blue velours interior in good condition, driver’s seat re-upholstered
– period-correct Blaupunkt Freiburg cassette radio installed
– power sunroof, power windows front and rear, centre arm rest, cruise control
– runs on its original “baroque rims”
– German registration documents
– new technical approval upon purchase, ready for registration as a historic vehicle

Rock solid elegance from Germany

The 123 models were the most successful cars Mercedes ever built. In 1980, the W123 even beat rival Volkswagen, having more registrations than the all-time winner VW Golf. The longĀ delivery time of up to three years had an interesting effect: Young used cars cost more than new ones.

The coupĆ© was derived from the sedan and was presented in 1977.Ā Its shorter wheelbase made it lookĀ more sturdy and sportive.Ā All coupĆ© models featured broad halogen headlights.Ā

For every 24 limousines, Mercedes produced only one coupĆ©, which is why the C123 was very early considered an eligible classic. Its high production quality makes it a very reliable vehicle, even today.Ā In Germany, Mercedes sold them with four or six cylinder petrol motors, whileĀ clientsĀ in the US could also choose additional diesel models.Ā

Opel Commodore 2.5 S

  • By:
  • With Comments Off on Opel Commodore 2.5 S
  • In

– 1979 Opel Commodore 2,5 S Berlina, only two owners from new
– celebrity pre-owned (well known comedian)
– 2.5 litre 6-cylinder engine with 85 kW (116 hp) and manual 4-speed gearbox
– classic, elegant appearance: white paintwork with black vinyl roof and trim lines
– typical late 1970s brown-beige velours interior in fine condition
– fog lights, tilting roof, power windows, original radio
– height-adjustable driver’s seat, right rearview mirror, power steering
– steel rims with decorative chrome rings
– German registration documents, valid technical approval until 08/2019 and historic plates

In 1967, Opel presented its first Commodore as an up-market variant of the Rekord C on which it was based. The styling was altered slightly, the trim level upgraded a little, but it was under the bonnet where the real difference lay: The Commodore was available only with inline 6-cylinder engines, originally with 2.2 and 2.5 litres of capacity. The first generation, known as Commodore A, was replaced in 1972 by the Commodore B when Opel rolled out a new Rekord model. Likewise, in 1977 the Commodore C closely followed the Rekord E. While body styles of the first two generations comprised two- and four-door sedans as well as a coupƩ, the latter was dropped for the Commodore C, which instead received a station wagon variant in 1979.
The Commodore C was sold in the UK as Vauxhall Viceroy, it was also manufactured in South Africa as Chevrolet Commodore, and it became the basis for the Holden Commodore in Australia, where the Commodore name lives on until today.
On the German market, the Commodore never enjoyed a huge sales success, which is why it was phased out in 1982, while the Rekord E continued on until 1986.

Genuine Corvette C3 Stingray as daily driver

The first generation Corvette, as presented in 1953, was Chevrolet’s reply to Porsche and Jaguar: A compact roadster which was lightweight – owing to its fibreglass body on a steel frame – and, with the introduction of a V8 in 1956, also sporty. In 1963, the second generation, marketed as Corvette Sting Ray, was released. It had a significantly improved chassis with independent rear wheel suspension and disc brakes. But above all, it featured a strikingly new and exciting design. Retractable headlamps were introduced – and became a Corvette hallmark until the 6th generation made its debut in 2005. With closed “eyes”, the Corvette had a sharp-edged front to contrast its elegant, flowing lines: stingray-like, indeed. In 1968, the third generation was introduced, which had a much more muscular appearance while retaining most of the engine and chassis components from the C2. This didn’t stop it from becoming the Corvette model with the longest production run, no less than 14 years!
In terms of motorisation, there were essentially two groups of engines based on either the “small block” (around 5 litres) or “big block” (up to 7.4 litres, discontinued 1975), with various transmissions and axle ratios.

– awesome limited edition Datsun, true collector’s car

As early as 1969, the recognizable sports car with its prominent long bonnet was available in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z. In Germany, the car entered the market in 1973 as Datsun 240 Z, but with very limited success: Hardly more than 300 – out of 150,000 examples built – were sold in this country. The second generation, built from 1975 to 1979 with numbers totalling around 100,000, was only slightly more popular. In 1979, the 280 ZX followed, a completely redesigned car, which retained the characteristic shape while offering a stronger engine, various technical improvements and a more luxurious interior. It became by far the most successful variant of the Z car, with around 500,000 units sold. In the US, the Japanese sports car – by now more of a luxury GT – was particularly en vogue, which is why for the 1980 model year a special limited edition was released for the US market, named “Tenth Anniversary Edition”. Out of 3,000 vehicles built, 2,500 were coloured gold and black, while 500 were red and black. They all featured a special option package which included, among other things, a surround sound system, tinted windscreen and T-bar roof, headlight washers and of course commemorative badges.
Production of the 280 ZX ended in 1984.

Have a relaxed cruise and feel the “American way of life”

As early as 1949, General Motors introduced the 88 vehicle type, known in American parlance as the “Eighty-Eight,” with the Oldsmobile brand. The 88 joined the existing 76 and 98 in the model range and replaced the 78 with its six-cylinder in-line engine. The combination of a high-volume V8 engine and a relatively light, smaller body made the 88 probably the first muscle car. The Rocket 88 in particular contributed to this, winning six of the nine NASCAR races that year and also earning the title “King of NASCAR” as a result. Which also led to an increase in sales. The second generation, from 1954, received extensive changes. The body became longer and lower, the windshield and the rear window were designed as panoramic windows. A new split radiator grille, restyled taillights, a revised rear end and modified side chrome trim were styling highlights. As early as 1950, the manufacturer adopted the rocket on the hood as its brand logo. The 88 name remained with Oldsmobile until almost the end. The 88 was extremely successful in the 1950s. It inspired American musicians Jackie Brenston and Ike Turner to write the RnB song “Rocket 88” as the earliest rock ‘n roll song.

NSU Prinz 3

A garage find – restorers wanted!

Here we have a rare Prinz 3 on sale for you. A cute, chubby, pretty little car that will definitely be an eye-catcher, once it’s restored.

The interior has significant traces of use and aging, but the seats are original and remarkably well preserved. The gearbox is missing, the 2-cylinder rear engine has not been tested. Since the NSU had been parked over the past 20 years, unmoved, in a dry garage, there is a lot to be done for sure. On the other hand, here’s a lot of good original substance to work with.

This little sweetie deserves to be done up really nicely. Who’s got the heart to do it?

Drive the “Prinz” and you are king – 50s charm at its best

Just 3.15 meters long, barely more than 500 kg net weight, 20 hp from 600 cc, two cylinders, just over 100 km / h top-speed – but room for four people who, according to the contemporary marketing slogan, felt like kings: That was the NSU Prinz, as presented at the IAA 1957 for the first time.

The rounded window in the rear section gave away that NSU had originally planned a three-wheeled vehicle in the manner of a cabin scooter, before they switched over to the more modern four-wheel design. The transmission in the spartan equipped Prinz I was not synchronized. From 1959, the Prinz II featured a synchronized four-speed transmission, pivoting triangular windows in the front doors and reclining seats. Also starting in 1959, the Prinz 30 became available, providing 30 hp owing to the higher compression and a larger carburetor, sufficient for a speed of 118 km/h. The small engines in the rear were loud, but durable and economical. From this series of “little prince” of Neckarsulm, a total of 94,549 vehicles were built.
