Mercedes-Benz 190 C

Every now and then, a true collector’s item finds it way back into the market, and the astounded public rub their eyes in disbelief: Can this really be true? Here’s an unrestored “little tail fin” Mercedes-Benz 190 C with a warranted mileage of only 62,500 km. The proprietor of a RĂŒdesheim restaurant bought the car new in 1964 – the original sales brochure, invoice, cardboard registration document, data card as well as the service booklet still exist. It then remained in the same family until 2007. The original owner’s nephew, who in 1981 had taken over the car, had it decommissioned in 1983 and parked it in a dry and heated garage where it was to stay for 24 years! In 2007, the third and current owner bought the car with a mileage of 47,702 km, had it recomissioned as a historic vehicle and took part in numerous classic car events.
The Mercedes still wears most of its original paint and the body has not been welded, apart from the repaired damage of a misplaced jack. The interior gives evidence to high-quality workmanship and appreciating, careful use. The chrome is equally nice, adding to the car’s exceptionally good general impression. Options as listed on the invoice include a steel sunroof, foldable centre armrest and fog lights.
The Mercedes has valid technical approval until 08/2017. It starts up without fail and runs very smooth. Just before entering the car into the auction, the current owner – due to a career change and temporary lack of company car – briefly used this amazing vehicle as a daily driver!

The vehicles colloquially referred to as “little tail fin” of the W 110 series were produced from 1961 to 1968. They belonged to the upper middle class of Mercedes and replaced the ponton series W120 / 121. Body, interior and luggage room sizes are substantially identical to the W111 series (“large tail fin”), which had entered the market in 1959.

All models have an unusual instrument panel with vertical roller speedometer (“clinical thermometer speedo”), where the display varies depending on the speed from yellow through red / yellow to red. All models also have the filler neck located behind the rear license plate, which folds down to allow access

The body was characterized by a hitherto unknown passive safety: It had for the first time a stable passenger cell and effective deformable zones. Mercedes conducted extensive crash tests, in which a vehicle was pushed over a ramp at 80 km/h in order to make it roll over.

Porsche 911 GT2 (996) Clubsport

Rare Porsche 911 GT2 Clubsport (996) – only 75 left-hand-drive units built
Sport version of the Porsche 911 Turbo
– 3 owners
– 3.6 litre engine with 340 kW (462 hp) and six-speed manual transmission

The Porsche 996 was the first 911 model to sport a water-cooled-engine. The air-cooled flat sixes – near-synonymous with the 911 ever since the first models had been built – weren’t able to cope with the hardened emission standards. But not only the cooling was changed, the chassis was, too. An additional 19 cm in length and 9.5 cm in width resulted in a more comfortable road performance compared to the predecessors. Many parts of the chassis were used in Porsche Boxster as well as in the 996, which led to an uproar in the 911 community as it got difficult to distinguish the Boxster-front from the 911-front. Not surprisingly the 996 didn’t turn out to be everybody’s darling. Responding to the negative feedback Porsche presented a facelift with increased engine power, better exhaust sound and replaced the headlights, which – due to their appearance – had been nicknamed “fried eggs” with the ones from the Turbo.
The 996 was available with a 6-speed gearshift or the Tiptronic automatic transmission. Engine power reached from 221 kW (300 hp) up to 254 kW (345 PS), the turbo-models had 331 kW (450 hp) as standard from 2004 onwards, and the 911 GT2 even produced up to 355 kW (483 hp). The 996 was available in more variants than any other member of the 911 model family before.

– imported to Germany in 2012
– part-leather interior in above-average condition
– original Porsche “man hole cover” alloys
– wheel bearing renewed
– power windows, air conditioning
– original manual and service booklet, in Japanese

The Porsche 944 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. It was based technically and optically on the 924 which had come out 5 years earlier. The Audi sourced engine of the 924, which had come under criticism by Porsche purists, was replaced by a genuinly Porsche 2.5 litre straight-4, which was effectively half of the 928’s 5.0 litre V8.
A turbo version was introduced in 1985, further power increases came with the 944 S in 1987 and the 944 S2 in 1989. The strongest engine available in a 944 was a 3.0 litre with 184 kW (250 hp) and a top speed of 260 km/h – impressive performance for a 4-cylinder car!
A convertible was only available in 1990 and 1991. Owing to its transaxle layout, handling of the 944 was superb, which is why it won the “Best Handling Production Car in America” award in 1984. In 1991, the 944 was replaced by the 968 which retained the characteristic styling cues of the 924/ 944.

Not open for everyone, but if open, then for four

Mercedes-Benz convertible lovers had to wait for it for a full two decades: A convertible, which offered no jump seats, but comfortable seats in the rear. There had been no such car since the end of production of the W108 series. In 1992 it was time again! The convertible based on the E-Class (W124) coupĂ©, presented in 1987 – at a time when the corresponding sedan had been out for sale for eight years straight. Early customers weren’t to be deterred by the high purchase price of 100,000 marks, and what they got, was a technically sophisticated vehicle with the proven 3 litre four-valve engine.

In subsequent years, the engine range was extended downwards, yet even the basic version with four-cylinder engine still set you back some 80,000 DM. From October 1996 to July 1997 there was the special “Final Edition” with an elegant, black-brown burl wood.
Since many A124 endet up as tuning victims, un-tinkered original models are now fast advancing to valuable classics.

Volkswagen KĂ€fer 1302 Cabrio

“AufmĂŒpfig” (obstreperous, rebellious) was the German “word of the year” for 1972. Is there something rebellious about this beautiful 1972 Beetle convertible? A little non-conformist, maybe. Cheeky even, but in an endearing way.
This car is a US-reimport of one of the 1302 convertible models that were built from 1970 to 1972 and are now getting increasingly rare, with the “flat iron” rear lights. The unwarranted mileage is 84,500 mls.
The convertible is equipped with the 1.6 litre four-cylinder boxer engine which delivers 35 kW (48 hp). The very sound of this engine conjures up memories in most people’s minds! Try it out: People turn their heads when they can hear the beetle… and then they smile.
The VW has once been refurbished and presents itself in a truly appealing condition inside and out. The beige interior, together with the matching colour convertible top, contrasts the red paintwork beautifully. As a minor shortcoming, the tarpaulin is missing. Mechanically, the car is in great shape. It comes with valid technical approval until 05/2017 and historic plates. A recent Classic Data appraisal estimated the replacement value of this convertible in condition 2 at € 28,000.

A convertible, at the end of production, the fans had tears in their eyes! Like no other vehicle had the Beetle Convertible found its way into the hearts of people – thanks to its timeless, cuddly shape and certainly also due to the fact that people far away from the “upper ten thousand” were enabled to get the convertible feeling.

During the last years of the 30-year construction period, the open version of the VW Beetle has become increasingly popular. With the demand, prices rose for neat specimens, they were actually from the beginning on above the new value. A car that had already become during its construction period a classic, but it was produced with relatively minor changes from 1949 to 1980.

During this long period the convertible has always been based on the currently most powerful and best-equipped variant of the “creepy-crawly”, overall more than 330,000 open beetles were made.

Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

This picture pretty Karmann Ghia coupé is a delight, with its unusual colour combination of blue body with white roof, matched by the white wall tyres and light leatherette interior.
Originally, the vehicle had been delivered to the US. Built in 1974, it is a very late model – production of these shapely cars was halted in the same year – and comes accordingly with the most powerful engine the factory had to offer for the Karmann Ghia, a 1.6 litre boxer with 35 kW (47 hp), mated with the tried-and-tested four-speed manual transmission as a matter of course. The engine makes a neat visual impression.
In general, the car looks very well maintained, inside and out. The front section displays traces of a previous accident damage. The gaps are somewhat uneven. The chrome bumpers, mirrors and the likewise chromed rear luggage rack are well preserved. The paint is in good condition and the interior has only slight wear. The sports steering wheel adds a special accent to the car, which comes with valid technical approval until 12/2018 and historic plates and is therefore ready for instant registration.

The preparatory work for the Type 14 at Karmann in OsnabrĂŒck began in early spring of 1953. The Italian design studio Ghia was charged with the draft of a coupĂ© based on the Beetle.
The prototype – presented at the end of 1953 – wowed the client and was also favourably accepted in Wolfsburg: The serial development of a 2 + 2-seater coupĂ© was decided and the production of the Karmann Ghia was launched in August 1955. On the 38th IAA the Karmann Ghia Cabriolet was presented. The vehicle was produced in Osnabruck from 1st November 1957 and priced at DM 8,250.
Karmann united with this vehicle the solid engineering of the Beetle with the elegant body of Italian design. To reduce the tilty and the oversteer tendency, the Karmann Ghia was fitted from the start with a front roll stabiliser. An enlargement of the front seat area has been achieved by the wider body compared to the Beetle. The running boards were omitted.
A total of 445,000 units were built, among them 80,897 convertibles. Many of them went to the United States.

What a dream car! From 1971-1989, the R107 founded the unbeatable reputation of Mercedes-Benz in the open two-seater segment.

From the autumn of 1971 onwards, the 450 SL is initially built for the US market. Its M 117 engine provides 132 kW (180 hp) in the California version, 140 kW (190 hp) in the version for the other states, and as of 1973, 165 kW (225 hp) at 5000 rpm in the version for the European market. The top speed is 215 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds.

The production of the R107 series ended in August 1989, more than 18 years after it had started. This makes it one of the longest-built chassis from Mercedes-Benz. A total of 237,287 open vehicles were produced at the Sindelfingen main plant.

This vehicle set plenty of standards through continuous innovation and has become one of the eternal automobile classics.

– market value € 35,000 (condition 2+; 2017) according to recent classic-analytics expertise

– a veritable gem for the French sports car connoisseur

Originally an independent tuning company, eventually incorporated by an established manufacturer… the story of the Alpine company and Renault follows the familiar pattern in a similar vein as was the case with Abarth and Fiat or AMG and Mercedes. Jean RĂ©dĂ©lĂ© founded his company in Dieppe, France, in 1955 and had great success in the 1960s / 70s with his Alpine A110, which was victorious in rallying. The A310 was the successor model. It was presented in 1971 and originally came with a rear-mounted four-cylinder engine which produced 93 kW (127 hp) from 1.6 litres of capacity. As of 1977, this was replaced by a V6 which was known as the “PRV engine”, a cooperation between Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, which was also used in the De Lorean DMC-12. The A310 was re-styled and sold under the name Renault Alpine GTA as of 1984. The PRV engine was now available in a turbo-charged version with up to 154 kW (210 hp) of power from 2.5 litres of capacity. In combination with the light-weight fibreglass body, this resulted in very sporty performance figures. In 1991, another last major facelift brought the Alpine A610, which remained on the market, albeit with limited success, until 1995.

Maybe the most elegant Mercedes-Benz coupé of all times?

As of February 1961, the coupĂ© and convertible variants of the W111 became available, initially using the same drivetrain as the sedan model 220 SE. They were referred to as 220 SEb/C. After that, engine sizes – and prices, too – of the coupĂ©s just kept going up. The 250 SE, 280 SE and 300 SE followed, and just before the end of the production run, the 350 SE.

In contrast to its predecessor, coupé and convertible are based on the unshortened carrier of the associated sedan and were thus a full four-seater. Coupé and sedan have also stylistically many similarities, but not one of the components of the four-door car could be used for the coupé or convertible. More than four times as many parts as for the sedan were made by hand for the coupés and convertibles.

These C-models were the last largely handmade Mercedes, which is why coupé and convertible prices were almost twice as high as that of the sedan.

Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Coupé

This W111 Coupé was first delivered in 1964 to a shoe factory owner in Pirmasens (original registration document is available). The two-tone paint in white with black hardtop and white bakelite steering wheel give the car the typical flair of the 60s. With its large sunroof, the lack of B-pillars and the completely retractable windows, it feels almost like a convertible.
The black leatherette interior has been completely refurbished, other components of the interior such as the wooden door panels present themselves largely in original condition with an appropriate degree of patina. The chrome is complete and, like the body, without major damage. The rear bumper displays small signs of impact, there is a scratch on the trunk lid and a tiny dent in the front fender and minor blemishes of this kind.
The 2.2 litre injection engine with 88 kW (120 hp) is fitted, coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission.
There is a Classic Data brief appraisal of EUR 27,000 (condition: 3).
The Mercedes has valid technical approval until 03/2016 as well as historic plates.
A well-kept and carefully part-restored “high radiator coupĂ©” to drive and enjoy.

In 1961, production of these great vehicles of the series W111, of which the French liked to refer to as “Grand Routier”, began with the 220 SE CoupĂ©. After that, engine sizes and prices of the coupes just kept going up.

The earlier models of this series are commonly referred to as “high radiator coupĂ©s”, to distinguish them from the later models: As a precursor to the W116, the front of the vehicle was, as of 1969, equipped with a lower radiator grille, now referred to as “flat radiator coupĂ©”.
The 220 SEb / C was the first mass-production Mercedes car with disc brakes on the front wheels.

The rich wooden interior, the thick leather upholstery, comfortable seats and generous space invite you to travel in the most stylish and comfortable way you can imagine.
