For many of its followers, this is the ultimate version of the VW Bus: The Volkswagen Type 2 (T3), as it was officially referred to, the third generation of VW’s forever-popular van. It still had the engine where they thought it belonged: in the rear. In fact, early T3 models featured the identical air-cooled engines of the predecessor, even though the new van was much roomier and also a fair bit heavier. 1981 the first Diesel-powered T3 were made available, and as of 1982, a new generation of water-cooled boxer engines became standard. Regular improvements, such as the introduction of fuel injection or catalytic converters kept the T3 up to date. In 1985, the 4 wheel-drive option called Syncro was released.
Regarding body types, the T3 continued to offer a great selection, including transporter, 2-door utility, twin-cab utility, and several trim levels for the van, topped in 1985 by the popular Multivan. Camping fans’ favourite, however, remained the Westfalia variant, a well-equipped camper van with pop-top.
In 1990, the successor model, the front-engined, front-wheel-drive T4 entered the market. However, the T3 remained in production in South Africa for another 13 years, right to the end of the T4 production in Germany!

The other great Porsche

This was supposed to be the heir to the throne, successor to the forever-young 911, which in the late 1960s was thought to be way past its prime, with not much of a future ahead. Hence a radically different layout was favoured: The new top-of-the-range model was designed to be a luxury touring car, with a powerful watercooled V8 engine in the front, providing 176 kW (240 hp) from 4,5 litres of displacement, and a transaxle layout, which enabled a weight distribution of nearly 50/50 (front/rear). The 928 debuted in 1977 at the Geneva Motor show. In 1978, it won the coveted “European Car of the Year” award, as the first sports car ever – a clear indication of just how advanced the 928 was both technically as well as with regards to styling. Many Porsche enthusiasts, however, greeted the 928 with something ranging from suspicion to downright rejection, as the 911 continued to sell. Nevertheless, the 928 became a success in its own right, with a construction period of no less than 18 years. Later models featured a 5.4 litre engine with up to 257 kW (350 hp). Only about 1/5 of all 928 came with a manual gearbox!

In order to make its volume seller attractive for the new millennium, VW launched a quality initiative for its 4th generation Golf. Improvements in workmanship, higher standards in interior design and material and an altogether more upmarket look-and-feel were the aim. Available as of 1997 and in production until 2003 on the home market, the Golf IV continued the success story of its predecessors, becoming the best selling car in Europe and winning various awards. A wide selection of engines was available, starting at 1.4 litres and 55 kW (75 hp) and ranging right up to the iconic, limited series R32 with 177 kW (241 hp) from 3.2 litres of capacity. Very popular with the customer base were the various implementations of the 1.9 litre direct injection turbo Diesel engine. Available body styles included the wagon, there was also the sedan, called Bora or Jetta depending on its target market, but no convertible: As had been the case with the Golf II, the previous model was adapted to visually resemble the current generation. Including all its derivatives, production figures totalled 4.9 million. Out of all those, a totally standard, 6-year old Golf IV made history: Pre-owned by Joseph Ratzinger, who had just become pope Benedict XVI, it sold for nearly € 189,000 at an auction in 2005.

Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special

In 1964, Muhammad Ali won his first Heavyweight Boxing World Championship. A different type of heavyweight rolled off the assembly line the same year: This mighty Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special Sedan, with its length of 5.7 metres, a kerb weight of 2.2 tons and equipped with its 429 cui V8 (7.0 litre) engine which produces no less than 230 kW (313 hp) of power – enough for a top speed of nearly 123 mph, although the 98 litre fuel tank won’t get you far then…
It came equipped with features that were far from standard at that time: Automatic climate control, power windows front and rear, electrically adjustable seats, cornering lamps and cruise control.
The Cadillac has been thoroughly refurbished several years ago, all works being documented. The repainting was done very carefully so the car still presents itself in a very decent condition on the outside. The red and black leather interior displays only minimal traces of use. Technically, the car, which is reported to have had three owners from new, is in a good condition according to the previous owner who held the Cadillac since 2012. The engine has been overhauled, using only original spare parts, including crankshaft, camshafts plus timing chain as well as all bearings. Some of the electrical appliances are currently not working. The 60 Special runs on a set of new tyres and has valid technical approval until 03/2016.
A very appealing full-size Cadillac from the Roaring Sixties.

The American Dream incarnate

As is often the case in US car naming conventions, the term “Cadillac Sixty Special” was used for many decades, over eleven generations of full-size luxury cars built by General Motors. The 60 Special was placed above the volume-selling DeVille, but below the even more luxurious Series 75. The 1963 brochure, for example, marketed it as “The Cadillac that stands out among other Cadillacs”.

Throughout its many generations, the 60 Special has always remained a 4-door sedan.
From 1977 till 1985, the Sixty Special Series was temporarily retired, before returning for the eleventh (and last) generation as a front-wheel-driven car – the only one that ever featured a six-cylinder engine – and a Diesel at that!

However, it is the impressive, heavily tailfinned specimens of the 1950s and 1960s as well as the nearly six metre long sedans of the 1970s and their massive V8 engines with capacities up to 8.2 litres that the Sixty Special will be remembered for.

BMW 525 (E12)

5 Series BMW (E12) from the last year of production
– 2.5 liter inline six cylinder gasoline engine with 3-speed automatic transmission
– Delivered in Germany
– Only 2 owners, since 8 years with the last owner
– Read mileage only 107.000 km
– Brazil brown metallic paint with matching interior
– Equipped with a manual steel sunroof, front and rear spoiler, sport steering wheel and
Mahle-BBS alloy wheels 7J 14
– Original BMW-Bavaria CR/VF stereo car radio
– 2022 Starter battery and spark plugs renewed
– Oldtimer status with admission as historic vehicle
– Original overall condition

It was the year of the Munich olympics – 1972 – when BMW launched the successor to its “New Class”: A new naming scheme was brought in, which lives on to this day. The E12 became the first generation of BMW’s 5 series, it featured very straight lines and a clear 3-box design by Paul Bracq which gave the car a modern look, while maintaining a degree of similarity with its predecessor.
In its first year, only 4-cylinder engines were available. The inline 6 engines which were to become near-synonymous with the 5 series were only introduced in 1973. During the 9-year production run, engines grew more powerful, culminating in the M535i with a power output of 160 kW (210 hp), the forefather of the M5. There was no Diesel engine in the 1st generation of the 5 series, and the 4-door sedan remained the only available body style.
In 1976, the E12 received a makeover at the hands of Claus Luthe, with post-facelift cars easily identifiable by their side-mounted fuel filler door and the centre bulge on the bonnet.
By the time production was halted, just short of 700,000 units had been built. The E28 which was to follow was based on the E12 and bore, at least on the outside, a close resemblance to it.

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my blog. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.

– 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL (W140)
– the pinnacle of German automotive engineering in the 1990s
– vehicle was delivered to Japan and re-imported in 2019
– reportedly only one registered owner
– electrically adjustable, heated seats with memory function
– sun roof, automatic air conditioning, cruise control
– original Mercedes-Benz radio
– original Mercedes-Benz 16″ light alloy rims
– owner’s manual and warranty booklet available

Automobile size, redefined

With the appearance of the new S-Class in 1991, it rained criticism: The vehicles were too heavy, not at all up to date in their megalomania – loading capacity was too low, and to top it all off, they didn’t even fit on the Sylt-shuttle trains!
Those who didn’t care about all of the above, acquired a sedan that set new standards and came with a hoist of innovations: CAN bus, voice controlled car telephony, park distance control, ESP, double glazed laminated safety glass … things that nowadays have become automotive standard were here on board for the first time. The excellent workmanship and reliability bestowed many W 140 a second career outside Germany. Models of this series were the first to be offered with V12 engines. Incidentally, the Maybachs built until 2011 were largely based on the the W 140 series.
Like all large Mercedes limousines before, the 1990s S-Class will be a sought-after classic in the foreseeable future.

Mercedes-Benz 230.6 (W114)

“Strich-Acht”, stroke-eight, is the nickname under which the vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz W 114 and W 115 series came to be known. The designation originated from the sales start in 1968 and identified the vehicles as successors to the W 110, the so-called “fintail”. The /8 series was designed by Paul Bracq and Bruno Sacco. The vehicles were equipped with petrol and diesel engines, which produced 70-110 kW (95-150 hp) and 40-59 kW (55-80 hp) respectively. The manufacturer differentiated internally between six-cylinder (W 114) and four-cylinder (W 115) engines. The chassis was a completely new development, which led to better road handling. Four disc brakes as standard and 26 crash tests prove that safety was paramount. As is still the case today, almost all equipment features were optional extras subject to surcharge. The typical centre console design was also new. In addition to the classic sedan, a variant with a long wheelbase and a coupé were offered. The solid basic substance and the superior build quality deserve special mention, as they often lead to seven-figure mileages, topped by a taxi to be admired at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, which covered a total of 4.6 million kilometres with three exchange engines. A total of over 1.9 million units of the /8 were produced.

Opel GT

Well no, obviously this is not all-original… But does it have to be? Sports cars from Opel have always been popular among the tuning community, the Opel GT is certainly no exception. This particular car, of German delivery, has had three owners from new, and remained with the same keeper, a car repair shop foreman, for 42 years. It was restored between 1984 and 1987. The GT was given a stronger engine, a 2.0 litre CIH inline-4-cylinder, which produces 81 kW (110 hp) of power. This, as well as the Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox, was not at all unusual, and consequently did not prevent the car from getting the sought-after registration as a historic vehicle.
Of course, all alterations have full type approval and are recorded in the vehicle registration documents. It appears that the Opel has never been decommissioned for any longer period of time.
The interior is in good shape, including dashboard, headliner and carpet. A Blaupunkt radio is installed. The headlight pop-up mechanism has been overhauled with new parts. Other period-correct features include the 13″ ATS wheels, tinted rear window and Engelmann mirrors.
The car has valid technical approval until 09/2018 and comes with ample repair receipts and documents.

“Only Flying is More Exciting” – the slogan which was used in advertising for the Opel GT has become as much of a classic as the car itself. In 1965 Opel presented an aerodynamic “Experimental Concept” at the Frankfurt motor show. When it went on sale three years later with surprisingly few changes as Opel GT, it was received enthusiastically both in Germany and abroad. With its Coke bottle shape, it looked like a younger brother of the Chevrolet Corvette, and indeed it was designed by the same team. Between 1968 and 1973, exactly 103,464 units of the GT left the factory. 85 % of the total production run went to export markets, by far the most were sold in the US, where the “Baby Corvette” was hugely popular.
Two straight-4 cylinder engines were offered for the GT: The smaller 1.1 litre OHV produced 44 kW (60 hp), while the larger 1.9 litre CIH delivered 66 kW (90 hp) and enabled a top speed of 185 km/h – nearly half a century ago, this was very fast.
With its manually operated pop-up headlights and the characteristic rear, the Opel GT became both a design icon and a cult car. Discontinued far too early, the GT today has a dedicated fan community which defies the marketing slogan: For them, not even flying is more exciting…

The Porsche 944 was presented at the IAA in 1981. Both technically and visually, it was based on the 924, which had appeared five years earlier. However, the Audi engine of the 924, which had been criticized by Porsche purists, was replaced by a genuine Porsche engine: a 2.5-liter inline four, essentially a halved 5.0-liter V8 from the 928.

A turbo version was introduced in 1985. Further power upgrades came with the 944 S in 1987 and the 944 S2 in 1989. The 3.0-liter inline four with 155 kW (211 hp) was the largest displacement inline four in a production passenger car when it debuted. The most powerful engine with 184 kW (250 hp) or optionally 221 kW (300 hp) was offered in the special 944 Turbo S model in 1988.
A convertible was only available in 1990 and 1991. Thanks to the transaxle layout, the 944’s roadholding was excellent, which is why it won the “Best Handling Production Car in America” award in 1984. In 1991, the 944 was replaced by the 968, which retained the characteristic styling elements of the 924/944.
