– original German delivery, first registered 04/1964, documented history
– mileage according to odometer 8,100 km, likely to have rolled over just once
– completely and professionally repainted in the original colour middle red (MB code 516)
– nice pinstripe interior brown/beige
– manual sunroof
– white bakelite steering wheel with slight patina
– chrome complete without any major damage
– 4-speed manual transmission with steering-column mounted gear lever
– Vredestein whitewall tyres emphasize the elegant appearance of the vehicle
– Classic Data appraisal over € 32,500 (condition 2+, 2017)
– German registration documents and historic plates

The vehicles colloquially referred to as “large tail fin” of the W111 series were produced from 1959 to 1965. They were full-sized Mercedes sedans and replaced the ponton series W180/W128. Body, interior and luggage room sizes are substantially identical to the W110 series (“small tail fin”), which entered the market in 1961.

All models have an unusual instrument panel with vertical roller speedometer (“clinical thermometer speedo”), where the display varies depending on the speed from yellow through red / yellow to red. All models also have the filler neck located behind the rear license plate, which folds down to allow access

The body was characterized by a hitherto unknown passive safety: It had for the first time a stable passenger cell and effective deformable zones. Mercedes conducted extensive crash tests, in which a vehicle was pushed over a ramp at 80 km/h in order to make it roll over.

Swedish steel with Italian chic
– 2.0 liter in-line four-cylinder engine with 91 kW (124 hp)
– 4-speed manual gearbox with electric overdrive
– Traceable speedometer reading
– 3 vehicle owners in the family only
– First registration in Sweden, transferred to the UK in 1981
– Bodywork overhauled and repainted eight years ago
– Blaupunkt radio, rear window heating, oil and coolant temperature display, oil pressure display

The Volvo P1800, a Volvo stylish like an Italian Gran Turismo, the driving experience like an English sports car and above all as robust as a Swedish “tank”. Commissioned by Frua, Italian design studio, the then 25-year-old Petterson presented his design as early as 1957, which was approved many years later. According to the original plans, the car was to be produced in cooperation with Karmann, but this fell through due to Volkswagen’s business relations with the German company. Instead, the British company Jensen took over the production of the car. A company called Pressed Steel produced the bodies, and final assembly took place at Jensen. During 1963, Volvo moved production and assembly to various Swedish plants. Technically, the P1800’s shortened platform and mechanicals were based on the reliable Volvo Amazon. The P1800 featured rear-wheel drive, a front engine, and a rear rigid axle. The first 4-cylinder engine, designated B18, also came from the Volvo Amazon. With the introduction of electronic fuel injection in 1970, the P1800 coupe was now designated the 1800E.
In 1972, the last coupe of a total of 39,778 units, a Volvo 1800E, rolled off the production line.

BMW 1800

No April fool’s joke, but a classic 1968 vintage: On 1 April 1968, this stunning BMW 1800 was built, to be delivered three weeks later to the Motag company at Zurich, BMW’s exclusive distributor for Switzerland. The 1800 has, according to the previous owner who held it since 2011, been through only three ownerships during all of its 47 years. It is reportedly in an unwelded, unrestored original state.
With its turf green paintwork and grey leatherette interior, the 4-door sedan looks as classy and elegant today as it did nearly half a century ago. This BMW must have been lovingly cared for throughout all of its car life. All chrome parts are shiny, the engine compartment clean, the interior untinkered, albeit not devoid of cracks in the driver’s seat and dashboard. The overall impression is convincing, with just the right pinch of patina. A Classic Data appraisal (condition: 2) testifies to the truly fine state of preservation.
The 66 kW (90 hp) engine runs smooth, the car is said to be mechanically sound, even though technical approval was only valid until 03/2015. The vehicle already has historic plates.
A “New Class” 1800 at its very best. Not new anymore, but all the more class!

In the late 1950s, BMW’s lineup consisted of luxury models, subcompact “bubble cars” and motorcycles. What was missing was a compact sedan with a deplacement between 1,500 and 2,000 cc to cater to the demands of the increasingly affluent contemporaries of the economic boom. The “New Class” E1, as presented in the shape of the BMW 1500 at the 1961 Frankfurt Motor Show, was aimed to fill this gap, and turned out to be a huge success. The car had elegant, yet unpretentious styling, was technically state of the art and quite sporty for its time. Two years later, BMW added the 1800 as the second member of the New Class. With its inline 4-cylinder engine providing 66 kW (90 hp), it was capable of a top speed of 162 km/h. In the TI version, this was raised to 82 kW (110 hp). As of 1966, the 2000 became the flagship of the New Class series of 4-door sedans and held this position until it was replaced by the E12, the original 5 series in 1972.
The mid-60s brought two variants based on the E1: the upmarket 2000 C/ CS coupés and the 02 series, the company’s new entry-level 2-door sedan which was also very successful in racing.

The Mercedes-Benz roadsters of the R107 series replaced the W113 “pagoda” in 1971. While the outgoing model only featured 6-cylinder engines, Mercedes had planned the new car with enough room for larger power plants under the bonnet, obviously with the North-American market as their main target – and indeed, that is where the SL proved most successful. Over a production run of a full 18 years, a total of 237,287 convertibles were built at the factory’s Sindelfingen plant, most of them equipped with V8 engines of varying capacity as 350, 380, 420, 450, 500 and 560 SL. 6-cylinder models were also offered, originally as 280 SL from 1974-1985 and later as 300 SL from 1985-1989.
The 560 SL was produced exclusively for the Japanese, American and Australian markets. Even faster, however, was the 500 SL with its European specifications, which was not sold in the US due to emission restraints.
Through continuous innovation over the many model years, the R107 set plenty of standards. When it was finally replaced by the R129 in 1989, it was already becoming one of the perennial automobile classics.

As a subsidiary of SKF (Svenska Kullagerfabriken), the Volvo brand was born in 1924. The first series-produced Volvo left the factory halls near Gothenburg as early as 1927. Volvo produced ten more vehicle series until 1958, but it was not until the twelfth series that the brand achieved the international sales success it had been striving for. Known as the “humpback Volvo” with the type designation PV444 and its successor the PV544. In August 1990, the 900 series was introduced as a further development of the 700 series and completely replaced it in 1992. Many body parts of the predecessor series could also be taken over. Because of the good rust prevention, galvanized steel sheet, corrosion was not an issue. Under the hood of the 940, the then still Swedish automaker used the same inline four cylinders of the predecessor. The 940 sedan and all station wagon models retained the rear rigid axle, which accordingly, through track and camber consistency, provided a pleasant ride. Due to the extensive safety-technical elements, the 900 series received countless prizes and awards and set a monument for eternity for Volvo. Even high mileages in the six-digit range are still considered to be just “broken in” today.
