Not open for everyone, but if open, then for four

Mercedes-Benz convertible lovers had to wait for it for a full two decades: A convertible, which offered no jump seats, but comfortable seats in the rear. There had been no such car since the end of production of the W108 series. In 1992 it was time again! The convertible based on the E-Class (W124) coupé, presented in 1987 – at a time when the corresponding sedan had been out for sale for eight years straight. Early customers weren’t to be deterred by the high purchase price of 100,000 marks, and what they got, was a technically sophisticated vehicle with the proven 3 litre four-valve engine.
In subsequent years, the engine range was extended downwards, yet even the basic version with four-cylinder engine still set you back some 80,000 DM. From October 1996 to July 1997 there was the special “Final Edition” with an elegant, black-brown burl wood.
Since many A124 endet up as tuning victims, un-tinkered original models are now fast advancing to valuable classics.

Mercedes-Benz 450 SL

There are people who would never consider buying a less-than-perfect classic. And there are wrenches. If you belong to the latter category, this 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL may be just right for you: The convertible was originally delivered to the US and has reportedly gone through three ownerships. Various body parts have been repainted, but the colour wasn’t exactly matched. The underbody looks good, the vehicle has reportedly no rot and only little visible rust. However, what with paint peelings, damaged chrome trim, onset of rust on the boot lid and other spots, porous door and window seals, corroded alloys with kerb damage… It quickly becomes apparent that there’s rather a lot of work to be done.
Inside, it is much the same. The carpeting is coming loose, the seats have small holes, the faux wood centre console has cracks. But there’s also an originial Becker Mexico cassette radio and the original vehicle tool kit.
And of course, there’s this marvellous engine, the popular 4.5 litre V8 which starts up without fail, even if it doesn’t run smooth, and the 3-speed automatic gearbox which according to the consignor works as it should and shifts properly.
In a nutshell: Here’s a solid basis for a restoration. Go for it!

From 1971-1989, the R 107 founded the unbeatable reputation of Mercedes-Benz in the open two-seater segment.

From the autumn of 1971 onwards, the 450 SL is initially built for the US market. Its M 117 engine provides 132 kW (180 hp) in the California version, 140 kW (190 hp) in the version for the other States, and as of 1973, 165 kW (225 hp) at 5000 rpm in the version for the European market. The top speed is 215 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to100 km/h in 8.8 seconds.

The production of the R 107 series ended in August 1989, more than 18 years after it had started. This makes it one of the longest-built chassis from Mercedes-Benz. A total of 237,287 open vehicles were produced at the Sindelfingen main plant.

This vehicle set plenty of standards through continuous innovation and has become one of the eternal automobile classics.

An impressive Mercedes-Benz 500 SL is being offered here. The exact history of the vehicle is not known and it seems to be a European delivery, as can also be seen by the bumpers and headlights.
The mighty 5.0 litre V8 produces 170 kW (231 hp) and is mated to the 4-speed automatic gearbox.
With its dark blue paintwork and tan MB tex interior, the SL still looks elegant after 30 years. The convertible top in matching dark blue is in an acceptable condition regarding the age of the vehicle. Traces of a not very professionally repaired accident damage remain visible on the right hand side of the car.
The SL features the 2+2 seater arrangement. Driver and passenger seats appear to have been re-upholstered given the good condition. Dashboard and centre console are slightly cracked, but altogether the car is in an acceptable condition regarding its mileage of over 220,000 mls.
A rare factory option in 1984 was the driver’s airbag, which is installed here, as well as the climate control (currently not working). Owner’s manual and service booklet – the latter in French – are included with this interesting convertible, which is being sold as a restoration object due to the considerably required repairs on body and mechanical parts.

A dream of automobile! From 1971 – 1989 the R107 founded the unbeatable reputation of the brand Mercedes-Benz in the open two-seater segment.

The top model 500 SL – equipped with the 450 SLC 5.0 known 5.0 litre V8 engine (M 117) – replaced the 450 SL and from the beginning with its 240, later 245 hp (or 223 hp with catalytic converter). This brings the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and delivers a top speed of 225 km/h (with catalyst 215 km/h). The production of the R 107 series ended in August 1989, more than 18 years after it had started. This makes it one of the longest-built chassis from Mercedes-Benz. A total of 237,287 open vehicles were produced at the Sindelfingen main plant.

A must-have for classic car connoisseurs!

– 1968 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
– two owners from new
– with the last owner for 32 years
– vehicle was part of a larger historic VW collection
– 1.5 litre flat-four engine offering 32 kW (44 hp), mated to manual gearbox
– unwarranted mileage of 44,300 km
– light blue paintwork and new black soft-top with tarpaulin
– chromed trim stripes and hubcaps
– period-correct Blaupunkt radio installed
– German registration documents

When production of this convertible came to a close, its fans had tears in their eyes! Precious few other vehicles had found their way into the hearts of people the way the Beetle Convertible had – thanks to its timeless, cuddly shape and certainly also due to the fact that it had brought the convertible feeling to people far below the ranks of the “upper ten thousand” in the first place.
During the final years of the nearly 30-year production span, the open version of the VW Beetle became increasingly popular, and as the demand went up, so did the prices for well-kept used cars, which surpassed their retail prices almost right from the start. A car that had already become a classic during its construction period, after all it was produced with relatively marginal changes from 1949 to 1980.
All along, the convertible was always based on the most powerful and best-equipped version of the “creepy-crawly” of its time. A total of 330,281 open beetles were manufactured at Karmann in Osnabrück, right up to the final “Volkswagen 1303 Cabriolet” with an engine power of 37 kW (50 hp) as of 1972.

“Aufmüpfig” (obstreperous, rebellious) was the German “word of the year” for 1972. Is there something rebellious about this beautiful 1972 Beetle convertible? A little non-conformist, maybe. Cheeky even, but in an endearing way.
This car is a US-reimport of one of the 1302 convertible models that were built from 1970 to 1972 and are now getting increasingly rare, with the “flat iron” rear lights. The unwarranted mileage is 84,500 mls.
The convertible is equipped with the 1.6 litre four-cylinder boxer engine which delivers 35 kW (48 hp). The very sound of this engine conjures up memories in most people’s minds! Try it out: People turn their heads when they can hear the beetle… and then they smile.
The VW has once been refurbished and presents itself in a truly appealing condition inside and out. The beige interior, together with the matching colour convertible top, contrasts the red paintwork beautifully. As a minor shortcoming, the tarpaulin is missing. Mechanically, the car is in great shape. It comes with valid technical approval until 05/2017 and historic plates. A recent Classic Data appraisal estimated the replacement value of this convertible in condition 2 at € 28,000.

A convertible, at the end of production, the fans had tears in their eyes! Like no other vehicle had the Beetle Convertible found its way into the hearts of people – thanks to its timeless, cuddly shape and certainly also due to the fact that people far away from the “upper ten thousand” were enabled to get the convertible feeling.

During the last years of the 30-year construction period, the open version of the VW Beetle has become increasingly popular. With the demand, prices rose for neat specimens, they were actually from the beginning on above the new value. A car that had already become during its construction period a classic, but it was produced with relatively minor changes from 1949 to 1980.

During this long period the convertible has always been based on the currently most powerful and best-equipped variant of the “creepy-crawly”, overall more than 330,000 open beetles were made.

This 450 SL is equipped with the 4.5 litre V8 engine (M117) and 180 hp, which was only available in the US. The vehicle was built in 1974 (and therefore still has the small European bumpers). The odometer shows an unwarranted mileage of 75,634 mls.

This vehicle wins you over with an extremely harmonious colour combination of lapis blue exterior paint (MB-color code 932) in conjunction with blue trim and blue carpets.

The SL features air conditioning, power windows and radio.

Paint and chrome are very good, lines nice and straight. Body-colour hard top and blue soft top are included, both in good condition.

The vehicle has already got historic plates and technical approval (TÜV) till 02/2017.

A really snazzy car!

Not only in Germany, but all over the world, VW beetles were hugely popular, and the convertible variant was a more or less affordable dream car for generations.
This specimen is a US-reimport of one of the 1302 convertible models which were built from 1970 to 1972 and are now getting increasingly rare, with the “flat iron” rear lights.
The convertible is equipped with the 1.6 litre four-cylinder boxer engine which delivers 37 kW (50 hp). The very sound of this engine conjures up memories in most people’s minds! Try it out: People turn their heads when they can hear the beetle… and then they smile.
The VW has been refurbished in Germany and presents itself in a truly appealing condition inside and out. The mileage on the odometer is 65,100 km, however the odometer was replaced so the genuine mileage is not known. The interior, soft top and paintwork all keep to black, contrasted by a beautiful chrome trim and brand new whitewall tyres. Mechanically, the car is in great shape. It comes with valid technical approval until 10/2018 and historic plates. A recent Classic Data appraisal estimated the replacement value of this convertible in condition 2 at € 28,000. As the engine has just been overhauled at € 2,000, we recommend an oil change after 50 km and re-adjusting of the valves.
