BMW Z3

– 1998 BMW Z3 roadster
– delivered and always registered in Germany
– low mileage of only 26,400 km
– service booklet available
– reportedly accident-free vehicle
– body-coloured hardtop comes with the car
– electrically actuated soft top, heated seats
– wood trim
– original BMW cassette radio on board
– runs on 16″ BMW alloys
– German registration documents and valid technical approval until 04/2021

In 1995, BMW presented a new sporting two seater roadster. Designed by Joji Nagashima, technically based on E36 and internally named E36/7, this was the first new BMW to be built exclusively in the US. Within just two years, a new factory had been erected at Greer, South Carolina, which had commenced production of the E36 in 1994. Apart from the powertrain, which still came from Germany, all other components for the Z3 were sourced from North American suppliers. The roadster was very popular right from day one – aided by clever product placement in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.
In 1999, a coupĆ© version (E36/8) was added. This proved somewhat controversial, as it was more of a shooting brake than an actual coupĆ©, and it ended up nicknamed “breadbox” by some critics. The engine palette ranged from a 1.8 litre four-cylinder with 85 kW (116 hp) to the mighty 3.2 litre six-cylinder in the Z3 M, which boasted 239 kW (325 hp).
For the 2000 model year, the Z3 was facelifted, the new look best noticeable at the rear with the L-shaped taillights. The facelift also brought better insulation for the convertible top, which now had three layers, not just one, and higher quality materials were used for the plastic rear window.
Over 7 years, a total of 279,273 roadsters and 17,815 coupƩs were built.

The Phaeton – Volkswagen’s flagship
From the very beginning, it was an ambitious project that the then Volkswagen CEO Ferdinand PiĆ«ch launched at the end of the 1990s. He wanted to open up a new market segment for Volkswagen with a luxury saloon and at the same time raise the entire brand to a new level. Only the very best was good enough. This also applied to the production facility in Dresden, “Die GlƤserne Manufaktur”. The new VW luxury class was manufactured there from December 2001. Despite its size (5.06 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, 1.45 meters high), it was visually discreet. High-quality materials, leather, chrome and wood veneers in the interior stand for the high quality standards of this new market segment of Volkswagen AG. The engine range began with the 3.2 l V6 petrol engine with 177 kW (241 hp). Another gasoline-powered engine, the W12, was in the form of a “W”, a combination of two V six-cylinder engines with a displacement of 6.0 l and 309 kW (420 hp). The V10 TDI with a torque of 750 Nm and a displacement of 5 liters was exceptional. From 2003, a 4.2 liter V8 petrol engine could be ordered. The stable body with standard air suspension made the Phaeton a distinctive long-distance saloon.

BMW Z3

BMW combined all the ingredients for success in this roadster: A long bonnet, a fine balance between round shapes and straight lines, fine build quality and of course the superb engines the make has earned itself a reputation for.
This example was built in 1997 and has had only one owner from new. The odometer displays an unwarranted mileage of just 117,200 km. It has the 1.9 litre four-cylinder engine installed, which produces 105 kW (143 hp) of power, perfectly sufficient for the lightweight roadster that tips the scales at just over 1,200 kg. The last service dates back to 10/2014 at 117,200 km.
Standard features of the Z3 include remote controlled central locking, driver’s airbag, power assisted seat adjustment, power windows and power operated outside mirrors. This Z3 also has got a series of factory options such as leather upholstery, automatic transmission, passenger airbag, heated seats, fog lights, leather steering wheel and trip computer. The original BMW Business RDS cassette radio is also on board.
The car shows slight optical deficiencies and presents itself as a desirable modern classic. Delightful driving on many sunshiny days through all seasons is pre-programmed.

Having built the Beetle Convertible for over 30 years, the Karmann plant at Osnabruck began producing the open Golf in 1980. At its debut, it was viewed with suspicion, especially the prominent roll-over bar was not up to everybody’s taste: “Strawberry Basket” quickly became the nickname for the compact VW convertible. And yet, the car was a huge success, not least due to the rigid body, the tight hood and sound workmanship.
When the last models rolled off the production line in 1993, the Golf III had already been on the market for almost two years: The Golf I convertible had outlived the entire Golf II series, which was built no less than 6.3 million times, but of which VW never made an open variant.
What customers appreciated at the time, makes the open Golf a sought-after, stable value collector’s item today. Later models are youngtimers on the clear path to becoming real classics.

The essence of automotive beauty

No other than Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type the most beautiful car ever made, and even if beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, not too many people would have contradicted him since. The debut of the XK-E, called “E-Type”, in 1961 was nothing short of a sensation. Its unrivalled elegant styling was complemented by plenty of power, and all of that at a relatively moderate price.

Over the years, the successful model was modified in several ways: From the spring of 1966 there was a 2 + 2-seater version with an extended wheelbase. In 1967, the headlight covers fell victim to American safety regulations. On the engine side, there were six-cylinder engines with 3.8 and later 4.2 litres, and as of 1971, twelve-cylinder motors to choose from. Production of the compact two-seaters ceased in 1971, the so-called Series III was only offered as a 2+2-seater.

A classic of superlatives, that’s all there is to it.
