Daimler Vanden Plas 4.2 Series II

This elegant sedan is a very rare Daimler Vanden Plas Series II, with long wheelbase and left-hand drive. In this combination, it is reportedly one out of 12 that were ever made, most of which would no longer be in existence. This specimen was converted from a right-hand drive vehicle in 1996. It is painted in emerald-green metallic, a Jaguar X300 colour which looks absolutely stunning on this british luxury sedan. The Daimler is equipped with power windows, air conditioning, power steering and radio.
This is a car with an extraordinary record of maintenance, repair and improvement receipts: Since 1998, the amount invested into the Daimler exceeds € 50,000. The Vanden Plas has valid technical approval until 09/2016 and comes with historic plates. A brief appraisal from 2013 stated a condition 2 and a replacement value of € 30,000 for this car.
The overall condition of this car is very good, with only slight traces of use and a degree of patina that is more than acceptable in a nearly 40 year-old vehicle: The cognac-coloured leather seats do not sag, the beautiful burlwood dashboard is free of cracks, the paintwork in fine condition with next to no scratches. The 4.2 litre straight six engine is said to run very smooth and strong.
A Daimler worthy of an english nobleman, in truly amazing condition.

The XJ may be regarded as Sir William Lyons’ masterpiece. It was the last car the co-founder of the Jaguar company designed, and what he had created in 1968 turned out to be perennial: The luxury sedan was built over 24 years with only minor modifications regarding the bodywork.
The XJ effectively replaced not only the S series, but the 420 and Mk II along with it, becoming the sole Jaguar saloon and one of the best known British motorcars. At first, only the XJ6 was available, but in 1972, a 12-cylinder version was added, the XJ12, at that time the world’s only mass-produced 12-cylinder sedan.
The first major facelift for the 1974 model year brought raised front bumpers and, consequently, a flatter radiator grille which made the XJ appear even more slender and elegant.
In 1979 the XJ was facelifted once more, incorporating a mild redesign by Pininfarina while largely retaining Sir Lyons’ original lines. Over the whole production span, around 318,000 XJ6 and XJ12 were produced, among them a small proportion as the even more luxurious Daimler Vanden Plas variant, which was – apart from the radiator grille – both technically, as well as optically almost identical to its sibling models by Jaguar.
One of the pecularities of the XJ is that it is equipped with two separate fuel tanks positioned on each side of the boot, each with its own chrome filler cap and a changeover switch on the dash.

Porsche 911 Turbo (930)

– guards red Porsche 911 Turbo from the 930 series
– delivered and always registered in Germany
– essentially untinkered original condition throughout
– reportedly accident-free car, regularly serviced, invoices available
– bi-colour Fuchs alloys plus a separate set of wheels from OZ
– 5-speed manual Ruf gearbox fitted
– black leather interior with minor traces of use
– power windows, air conditioning, Blaupunkt Essen radio
– recent expert assessment (2016) testifies a market value of € 118,000 (condition 2)
– now ready for registration as a historic vehicle
– German registration documents and valid technical approval until 04/2019

It is based on a legend, and became a legend in its own right. The Porsche 930, better known as the 911 Turbo, was not only the fastest serial production sports car in Germany when it entered the market in 1975, but also the first production sports car in the world that made use of an exhaust gas turbocharger. It owes its existence to homologation regulations but quickly became a cult car, topping the Porsche range and attracting wealthy customers all around the world.
The models offered up to 1977 had a 3.0 litre engine which produced 191 kW (260 hp), almost 25 % more than the contemporaneous 911 Carrera. In 1978, an intercooler was added and the displacement increased to 3.3 litres. Power output reached 221 kW (300 hp).
Targa and convertible variants of the 911 Turbo are rare due to the fact that they were only added to the lineup in 1987 – and they came with a hefty price tag: A 911 Turbo Cabrio cost around DM 22,000 more than a Turbo Coupé and almost twice as much as a Carrera Coupé!
All 930 models prior to 1989 came with a 4-speed manual gearbox, only for the last year of its production, a 5-speed gearbox was introduced, which lived on in the successor, the 964 Turbo.

Mazda MX-5

– iconic first series Mazda MX-5 in British racing green
– only one registered keeper from new
– delivered in Germany in 1994
– reportedly accident-free matching numbers vehicle
– 1.8 litre 4-cylinder engine producing 96 kW (130 hp), with manual gearbox
– timing belt and water pump renewed at 106,000 km
– chrome spoke wheels plus original set of wheels
– black soft top renewed in 2011
– hard top in matching car colour included
– German registration documents and valid technical approval until 02/2021

In the late 1970s, the once popular open two seater cars had almost completely disappeared from the American market. Mazda realized the gap and the opportunity it provided and developed a lightweight open sports car, the MX-5, or Miata, as it was called in the US. It was presented at the Chicago Auto Show in 1989 and became an immediate success. The brand had planned to sell around 5,000 units per year – and ended up with the best-selling roadster of all time: Today, thirty years later, the MX-5 is in its fourth generation, and the combined sales have long exceeded the 1,000,000 units threshold. The design principle of “Jinba ittai”, essentially meaning “oneness of horse and rider” and its consistent implementation laid the basis for this unrivalled success: The MX-5 is a no-frills driving machine, with solid build quality, a 50:50 weight distribution owing to its front-midengine, rear wheel drive layout, a decent suspension and a kerb weight of under 1 ton. In this combination, it received ample praise from the motorist press and was showered with accolades.
1st generation MX-5 came with 1.6 or 1.8 litre 4-cylinder engines and a power output of up to 96 kW (131 hp) and are recognizable by their retractable headlights, a feature dropped in subsequent generations.

The essence of automotive beauty
No other than Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type the most beautiful car ever made, and even if beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, not too many people would have contradicted him since. The debut of the XK-E, called “E-Type”, in 1961 was nothing short of a sensation. Its unrivalled elegant styling was complemented by plenty of power, and all of that at a relatively moderate price.
Over the years, the successful model was modified in several ways: From the spring of 1966 there was a 2 + 2-seater version with an extended wheelbase. In 1967, the headlight covers fell victim to American safety regulations. On the engine side, there were six-cylinder engines with 3.8 and later 4.2 litres, and as of 1971, twelve-cylinder motors to choose from. Production of the compact two-seaters ceased in 1971, the so-called Series III was only offered as a 2+2-seater.
A classic of superlatives, that’s all there is to it.

Ferrari Mondial QV Cabrio

This rare 2+2 seater Ferrari Mondial Quattrovalvole convertible is one out of a total of merely 629 open models of its type ever built.

The red 1985 sports car has recently been imported from the US. The interior in black leather with the typical high-quality workmanship is in a good state of preservation and gives credibility to the unwarranted mileage of only 22,400 mls.
This model apparently still bears most of its original paintwork, which is in a fine state regarding its age of 30 years, virtually free of visible rust. A slight dent rear right and a small bump in the trunk are blemishes worth mentioning. The original Ferrari rims are very attractive. The soft top gives a near-new impression with only the slightest traces of wear.

In this beautiful mid-engine convertible you needn’t go without air conditioning, nor without a subsequently installed subwoofer in the passenger footwell.

All in all a very nice open-top sports car that has always been a rarity on the roads.

The family Ferrari

It turned out longer and wider than its predecessor and offered sufficient space even for rear-seat passengers – while being a true mid-engine sports car. This combination is highly unusual, if not unique for a production car, even more so for one available as a convertible.

Pininfarina drew the elongate lines of the Mondial 8, which was first presented at the Geneva show in 1980. The low-pollutant V8 with 214 hp was not considered powerful enough by all friends of the house, which led Ferrari to come up with the Quattrovalvole, some two years or 703 vehicles later, boasting 240 hp for the desired extra bit of oomph. Of this, a total of 1,773 units were built, among them 629 convertibles.

The year 1985 brought a major facelift, since then the Mondial was offered as a 3.2 delivering 270 hp. In this form, a total of 987 coupés and 810 convertibles were produced until 1988.

NSU Ro 80

Such a fine sight, this Ro 80. This example of the technology pioneer has, according to the previous owner, spent almost two decades “hibernating” in a garage, sheltered, but completely unmoved. Accordingly, more than a little “spring cleaning” will be required, before the 2-disc Wankel engine will purr like on day one. The vehicle is technically in an untinkered original condition – compression is ok, but the exact scope of the work required has not been determined.

The inside gives a well-kept impression. The beige velour blends well with the original paint in blue metallic. The sky is clean, as are the seats, and the interior altogether without major flaws. The original radio is also on board.
The chrome parts are in good, albeit slightly tarnished state. The vehicle is reportedly accident-free, only a slight dent in the driver’s door casts a small shadow on the overall picture.

All in all a car that absolutely deserves to be carefully restored and recommissioned. It will be worth it!

A connoisseur’s sedan – Revolutionary technology in designer costume

When NSU presented the Ro 80 in 1967, the car created quite a stir, what with numerous innovations all packed into one vehicle. Above and beyond all else, there’s the Wankel engine, which unfortunately was rather damage-prone at first, ruining the reputation of the otherwise ingenious engineering feat, even if the problems got completely resolved over time. Other features were, among others, disc brakes on all four wheels, or electro-pneumatically actuated semi-automatic gearshift. Then as now an eye-catcher: the wedge-shaped body, anticipating design tendencies by about two decades.

The enthusiasts’ scene of the Ro 80 owners is particularly active, so it is no problem to use one of these stylish cars as a daily driver. What is, however, rather difficult to describe is this unique ride on the motorway, with the engine noise getting lesser and lesser as the speed increases.

Mercedes-Benz 300 TE 4Matic

– 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 TE 4Matic in grey metallic
– one of only 34,177 units built with 4Matic drive, from an overall 2.6 million W124
– automatic all-wheel-drive for perfect handling on and off road
– elevated chassis, ABS and front airbags for a comfortable and safe driving experience
– climate control, power windows and electric side mirrors
– reportedly accident-free car, service booklet available
– sunroof, power steering, roof railing and fog lamps
– powerful inline-six cylinder engine with 132 kW (179 hp)
– interior with almost no signs of wear
– paint and engine in good condition
– a station wagon as rare as the W124 convertible
– German registration documents and valid technical approval until 02/2020

Even a hugely successful car series needs to be replaced eventually, so the Mercedes W 123, a volume seller with over 2.7 million units, was superseded by the W 124 in 1984. For the next decade and more, this Mercedes defined the standard for mid-size luxury cars. The styling came from Bruno Sacco, and engineering as well as build quality were nothing short of excellent – so much so, that its fans have taken to nicknaming the W 124 “the last true Mercedes”. Despite its somewhat box-shaped lines with the prominent radiator grille, typical for Mercedes cars of its era, the W 124 actually had a very low drag coefficient of 0.28 (with slim tyres).
A wide selection of engines was available: petrol engines with 4, 6 or 8 cylinders and diesel engines with 4, 5 or 6 cylinders. Apart from the sedan, which was by far the most common body style, there were also station wagons (as of 1985), coupés (1987) and convertibles (1991), as well as rare long-wheelbase variants. The W 124 was facelifted in 1989 and then again in 1993, when the name “E-Class” was introduced.
Production numbers of the W 124 reached almost the level of its predecessor, totalling 2,562,143 vehicles.

In order to get the Porsche Group out of the sales and earnings crisis, the decision was made to develop a mid-engine sports car in line with the roadster boom at the time.
A prototype of the Porsche Boxster was presented at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993. The market launch of the roadster with a boxer engine was in Germany in 1996 with the type designation 986. After around 9 years of production, the successor, the Boxster (type 987), was introduced. In addition to the changes in the interior, center console, door panels and steering wheel, the design of the headlights was changed, similar to the model series of the Porsche 911. At the same time, the performance was increased to 176 KW (240 PS) when it was launched.
The third generation of the Porsche Boxster was only released as Type 981 in spring 2012.

MG A 1600 Mk. I

  • By:

  • In

With its fire-red finish, shiny chrome and the near-new whitewall tyres, this 1960 MG A makes a dashing image! The classic British roadster is 55 years old and has recently been imported from California. It has an unwarranted mileage of 74,100 mls on the clock.
This MG comes in an optically very good condition, including a paintjob of a quality superior to that of most American re-sprayings. A slight peeling on the boot lid underneath the luggage rack is visible, otherwise the car is virtually free of notable rust or damaging. The interior is just as presentable, with door panels and leatherette seats displaying only slight traces of use. A Becker Europa radio is fitted to the dashboard, which also features a rev counter, thermometer and fuel gauge.
This MG is powered by a 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine which provides 66 kW (90 hp) and is teamed up with a manual five-speed gearbox. The engine compartment looks just as well-kept as the rest of the car. The car comes with German registration documents, valid technical approval until 04/2017 as well as historic plates. The original owner’s manual is included.
An elegant roadster for enjoyable weekend cruising – and a worthwhile investment to top it off, as the recent Classic Data appraisal agrees, evaluating this MG in condition 2 at € 31,000.

The MG A was designed by Sidney Enever as early as 1951. After failing to obtain the go-ahead by the BMC chairman, the project got shelved, only to be brought back four years later when sales of the somewhat outdated T series were dropping. With its stunning looks, it quickly became the most successful British sports car of its time, with just over 100,000 cars made.

Engine-wise, the original 1489 cc was replaced with a 1588 cc in 1959 and then again in 1961 with a 1622 cc. Even though the A series is best known for its roadsters, a coupé version was available as of 1956, which, its richer features’ list notwithstanding, never even remotely reached the popularity of the open variant.

In case you’ve been wondering: There’s no way to lock the doors on the roadster, as they have neither lock nor handle. You simply reach in and pull a cord…

MG A prices have been continuously on the rise over the past years.
