The Lancia Fulvia is an automobile of the Italian manufacturer Lancia. The vehicle was built from the fall of 1963 to early 1976 and is considered the successor to the Lancia Appia. Like other Lancia models after the Aurelia introduced in 1950, the Fulvia was named after a classic Roman road, in this case the Via Fulvia, which led from Cortona to Torino. The Fulvia was available as a sedan (Berlina) and a coupe. It was based on the larger Lancia Flavia and for the first time featured the advanced front-wheel drive, disc brakes and an elaborate chassis that provided excellent roadholding. The coupe’s shape was designed by Italian designer Pietro Castagnero at Lancia’s “Centro Stile” and was unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1965. The Fulvia Coupé marked the beginning of a long and successful rally career at Lancia. As early as 1972, Lancia won the rally construction championship. The costly development, construction and the outstanding quality became Lancia commercially regarded to the doom. So that Lancia was taken over 1969 by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat.

– special edition “Etienne Aigner” in original condition
– mangrove green metallic (VW colour code LK6P)
– special fabric seats and matching tarpaulin
– traces of rust at windscreen frame
– small dents in front section

– pretty “strawberry basket” in rare and great looking colour scheme

A strawberry basket? How sweet!

Having built the Beetle Convertible for over 30 years, the Karmann plant at Osnabruck began producing the open Golf in 1980. At its debut, it was viewed with suspicion, especially the prominent roll-over bar was not up to everybody’s taste: “Strawberry Basket” quickly became the nickname for the compact VW convertible. And yet, the car was a huge success, not least due to the rigid body, the tight hood and sound workmanship.

When the last models rolled off the production line in 1993, the Golf III had already been on the market for almost two years: The Golf I convertible had outlived the entire Golf II series, which was built no less than 6.3 million times, but of which VW never made an open variant.

What customers appreciated at the time, makes the open Golf a sought-after, stable value collector’s item today. Later models are youngtimers on the clear path to becoming real classics.

Volkswagen Karmann – A charming roadster with sleek body lines styled by the famous Italian Ghia Studios paired with reliable German technology
– 1.6 liter four-cylinder boxer engine with 50 hp and 4-speed manual gearbox
– Imported from the U.S. in 2017

– Chrome bumpers, vent windows

– New black convertible top and light-colored headliner, new rubber seal
– German registration, admission as historic vehicle + valid technical control until 11/2025
Not a real sports car with 50 hp only, but such a beauty doesn’t need speed to shine

The preparatory work for the Type 14 at Karmann in Osnabrück began in early spring of 1953. The Italian design studio Ghia was charged with the draft of a coupé based on the Beetle.
The prototype – presented at the end of 1953 – wowed the client and was also favourably accepted in Wolfsburg: The serial development of a 2 + 2-seater coupé was decided and the production of the Karmann Ghia was launched in August 1955. On the 38th IAA the Karmann Ghia Cabriolet was presented. The vehicle was produced in Osnabruck from 1st November 1957 and priced at DM 8,250.
Karmann united with this vehicle the solid engineering of the Beetle with the elegant body of Italian design. To reduce the tilty and the oversteer tendency, the Karmann Ghia was fitted from the start with a front roll stabiliser. An enlargement of the front seat area has been achieved by the wider body compared to the Beetle. The running boards were omitted.
A total of 445,000 units were built, among them 80,897 convertibles. Many of them went to the United States.

In 1974, Volkswagen presented the Golf – a great improvement over its predecessor, the Beetle, with its air-cooled rear-mounted engine. The Golf was a front-wheel drive car from the start, with water-cooled, transversely mounted engines – and a huge success. When the 3rd generation was introduced in 1991, it had once again become larger and significantly heavier. With the Golf VR6, a new attractive market niche was occupied. The 2.8 litre six-cylinder engine in a V-shape, with an unusually narrow angle of 15 degrees, was taken from the Passat series and was at the time the only passenger car in the compact class with a six-cylinder engine. This engine is a “two-valve”, which does not draw its power from high revs, but rather develops its power at low revs, casually. The Golf VR6 is a real Golf, too. There is no question of overpowering or exaggerated sportiness. The drive and chassis behave harmoniously with a high degree of driving safety. The so-called plus front axle in combination with the electronic differential lock, EDS, swallows up the suspected drive influences. Likewise the traction problems to be expected with powerful front-wheel-drive vehicles. The VR6 is a Golf that combines maximum driving pleasure with its six-cylinder engine and its comfort characteristics.

Volvo P1800 S

Do you remember Roger Moore as “Simon Templar” in the TV series “The Saint”?
He always drove a white Volvo 1800. In fact, Moore liked this car so much, he bought one for private use. And now, you can, too! This Volvo P1800 S Coupe with cream white paintwork has recently been shipped back to Europe after 50 years in the US.
It comes with new bicolour (red/black) door linings, nearly new and very clean sky, red leatherette seats, all wrapped in the stylish italo-swedish body. Engine-wise, the very robust 1.8 litre 4-cylinder is installed, with an output of 71 kW (96 hp) which is sent to the wheels by means of the M41 gearbox, a 4-speed manual with electrically actuated overdrive – which makes it effectively a 5-gear. A Volvo 1800 S holds the mileage world record for passenger cars, with over 3 million miles on the first engine and gearbox, leaving no questions regarding the durability of this technology.
The overall impression of the sports coupe is pleasing, the paintwork of sub-standard quality notwithstanding, and the car is conditionally drivable. For unobstructed driving pleasure, some work will be required regarding body, undercarriage and drivetrain. The Volvo 1800 was never a common sight even when new, and is nowadays a real rarity on the streets. You’ll be sure to catch people’s eyes with this one.

Sporty Swede, the Second

Volvo’s first attempt to gain a foothold in the sports car market with the 1956 model P 1900 had been a complete disaster. The second attempt succeeded, albeit with a bumpy start: An agreement had already been reached with Karmann at Osnabrück in 1957, when VW banned the production, out of fear for competition with their own models. Production of the P 1800 therefore started with much delay towards the end of 1960 at Jensen in England. Due to quality defects, production was moved to Volvo’s own plant in Sweden in 1963.

Technically, the elegant coupe was based on the Volvo 122 S, nicknamed “Amazon”. It was said that the design came from Frua in Italy – which was only partly true, because strictly speaking, the Swede Pelle Petterson, who worked at Frua, had drawn the car.
Including the Shooting Brake “1800 ES”, available as of 1972 and known by its nickname “Snow White’s Coffin”, a total of 47,492 units of the P 1800 were built, the majority of which went to the United States.

The 560 SL (1985 – 1989) was conceived as an export model for the American, Australian and Japanese market and never officially offered in Europe. The 5.6 litre eight-cylinder engine (M 117) was created by lengthening the stroke of the 5.0 litre V8, it produces 170 kW (231 PS).

The G-Class, the real off-road vehicle

– delivered to Japan, re-imported in 2019
– owner’s manual and warranty booklet available

A long, long time ago, when the acronym “SUV” was unheard of and 4WD cars were rugged work-horses rather than fashionable lifestyle cars, Mercedes-Benz developed its G class. With the “G” referring to the German word “Geländewagen”, off-road vehicle, its envisaged field of application was clearly defined, and the conceptual design of the car was an unambiguous case of form following function. A body-on-frame construction, high ground clearance, very straight lines, plus the use of three fully locking differentials made for a vehicle that was extremely versatile even in difficult terrain. The G class, presented in 1979, was manufactured – in the true sense of the word, mostly by hand – in Austria by the Steyr-Daimler-Puch, and marketed under the Puch name in some countries. Military variants of this very reliable and highly esteemed car were commissioned around the globe. The civilian version remained in production for nearly 4 decades in largely unchanged shape, while the engines grew continually more powerful and the interior became more and more luxurious. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz re-launched an entirely new G class, which is considerably wider and larger than its predecessor, while still retaining its iconic form.
