Cadillac’s Series 62 was, when it was launched in 1940, the entry-level full-size luxury car. As a major novelty, it had the sleek torpedo style chassis also known as the C-body, which it shared with various Buick and Oldsmobile models. Shoulder and hip room were significantly greater, in fact the car became a true six-passenger vehicle when the shift lever moved to the steering column. The streamlined, runningboardless design went down extremely well, setting a new sales record for Cadillac.

The customer could choose between 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and both 2- and 4-door convertibles. Under the long drawn-out hood with its characteristic grille, a 5.7 litre V8 provided ample torque.

Production of the 62 was halted during world war II, then resumed without changes in May 1946. Over the next 18 years, the 62 was frequently modified and equipped with even stronger V8 engines. In 1964, after almost 1,400,000 units sold in total, the 62 was dropped and replaced by the Calais series.
