Bentley’s first post-war luxury car was the so-called Mark VI, which was introduced in 1946. The Mark VI was also the first Bentley model to be delivered from the factory as a complete vehicle, i.e. with a factory body. Bentley Motors had been owned by Rolls Royce since 1931. However, they retained their own brand name. The Bentley Mark VI was the first vehicle to be identical in construction to the Rolls Royce. Bentley also continued the tradition of offering its model in chassis form to outside coachbuilders, but the Mark VI was the last car to be offered in this way. It was powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine with the intake valves in the cylinder head and the exhaust valves arranged sideways in the block. For its time, the Bentley Mark VI offered impressive driving performance, and production of the model continued until 1952.
