When Ford started with the F-Series in 1948, it was not foreseeable what a success story this would be. After 75 years and now 15 generations, it is one of the best-selling cars ever. The F-Series is the backbone of the Ford Motor Company in its home market, the USA.
The success is based on the extensive body and equipment variants as well as the affordable prices. Ford does everything exactly as the citizens from rangers to high school graduates want it. Although the product range of light commercial vehicles looked completely new at the beginning of the 5th generation, the predecessor from 1961-1966 served as the basis. The model is available with different sized cab, different wheelbases and several engine and drive combinations. From 1968, the 360 and 390 cui Big-Block V8 engine replaced the 352 cui Y-Block engine. These are FE engines (Ford-Edsel) with a better torque and the bodywork of the 5th generation became much more angular.
The Ford Ranger XLT was the first available luxury version.
Generation 5 was still produced in Brazil until 1992.
