The Triumph Roadster was the first post-war car from the Triumph Motor Company and was produced from 1946 – 1948 in a quantity of 2501 units of the 1800 cc and 2000 units with the 2100 cc engine. The roadster was powered by the 1,776 cc OHV four-cylinder engine from the pre-war Flying Fourteen model from Standard. The body of the Triumph 1800 Roadster was made of aluminum panels on an ash wood frame, as steel was in short supply.
The following text is from the original 1947 sales brochure:
“The Triumph Roadster has the appearance of a low-built, well-equipped sports car. Closer inspection, however, reveals that there is ample room for three people in the front seat, while two more passengers can be accommodated in the spacious rear on padded folding seats. When opened, the folding lid, which is fitted with safety glass, forms an adjustable windshield to protect the rear passengers.
The Triumph 1800 Roadster was perhaps the last production model with a rumble seat (known as a dickey seat in England). Triumph used the technical knowledge gained from the production and marketing of the post-war models for the successful TR series that followed.
