The Cayman is a Porsche mid-engine sports coupe from the Zuffenhaus-based sports car manufacturer. The Cayman S premiered at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2005 in Frankfurt. The sporty two-seater was launched in Germany in November 2005. The technology is based on the Porsche Boxter. The Cayman engine was upgraded with parts from the 911 unit. The cylinder head and the “VarioCamPlus” camshaft control system were taken over. The crankshaft and pistons were completely redesigned by the engine engineers. All chassis components (springs, dampers, stabilizers) were designed to be sportier than on a Boxter. But the closed body also only slightly impairs handling on different road surfaces compared with the open sister model. In July 2006, the entry-level Cayman model with the 2.7-liter 180 KW (245 hp) engine completed the model lineup. A distinguishing feature of the Cayman S are the brake calipers painted red ex works. On behalf of Porsche, Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, Finland, and Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, produced the Cayman sports cars.
