Messerschmitt KR 200 – aircraft cockpit on three wheels
This is how an airplane pilot must have felt in the past: entry from above, panoramic view, glass pulpit that lowers over the passengers. Then start. Now it’s over with aircraft associations. What sounds when you turn the ignition key is the rattling of a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with almost 200 cm3. And of course the vehicle does not take off, but stays on the road. Even if it feels different.
The Messerschmidt cabin scooter (KR 200), repeatedly referred to as the “Plexiglas full view coupé”, developed by Fritz M. Fend, was produced by the Messerschmidt aircraft factory until mid-1956.
From January 1957 the cabin scooter was manufactured by the newly founded company “Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau Regensburg GmbH” (FMR). The designer Fritz M. Fend and the manufacturer Valentin Knott joined as partners.
The KR 200 was produced in the variants with a plexiglass hood, convertible sedan, roadster and sport until 1964 in smaller numbers.
