According to the manufacturer, no more than 846 units of the Fiat Ghia 1500 GT – later renamed Ghia 1500 GT – were built as of 1963. The Turine based coachbuilder Ghia had created the coupé under their own direction on the basis of the rather conventional Fiat 1500 C. With its shortened chassis and a power increase to 49 kW (67 hp), the coupé was able to reach a top speed of 180 km/h. Improvements during the 4 years of production brought engine power up to 62 kW (84 PS). A weight distribution of precisely 50 : 50 made for excellent road handling abilities. However, the 1500 GT was not designed to be a racing car, but an exclusive Gran Turismo. The car’s handcrafted body, its outstanding manufacturing quality, the comfortable seating position on well-contoured sports seats and the great all-around view owing to the large windows need to be mentioned. The 1500 GT was available in six standard colours with a large list of optional equipment, which included a dual exhaust and overdrive. The attractive and very rare coupé guarantees smooth cruising and will definitively attract attention since there are apparently only 70 examples remaining worldwide.
