This Renault R4 is an early model and was built in 1965. Its 4-cylinder engine delivers 19 kW (26 hp), which are transmitted to the front wheels via the three-speed transmission by the legendary revolver gear lever.
Due to the original and not restored condition it is the right thing for those who still have space in the garage and like to put on even hand. Unwarranted mileage of about 76,500 km matches the condition of the vehicle with age-related patina and rust damages. Chrome and mounted parts are largely without damage.
The R4 comes from France and has not been moved in recent years. It therefore does not have German registration. It is not roadworthy (engine is not running) and a leaded exchange engine is supplied.
All in all a charming Frenchman who still needs some work for its 50th anniversary.

For some it was the “better duck”, for many just a workhorse, a loyal companion, a cheap student car, for others has always been an expression of a living culture: the Renault 4 found friends from different camps. In fact the edged 5-door car with front-wheel drive and platform frame – launched in 1961 – was an extremely versatile vehicle with plenty of space, which besides could be run cost-effectively. A total of more than 8 million of the small spartial miracles were produced in 16 countries over a period of 3 decades.
In order to transfer the 24 to 34 hp – depending on the engine fitted – to the front wheels the driver uses the quaint revolver gear lever. Not before 1968 this lever had to impact on a four-speed gearbox, previously there were only three gears.
Generally the R4 was and actually is a car that teaches serenity in a charming way and yet offers comfort, a car which knows how to turn modesty into liberty.
